Director Terry Gilliam and star Robin Williams on the set of The Fisher King, 1991. If you haven’t seen this sad and funny movie about a man driven mad by grief, do yourself a favor and watch it.
All the leads in this film, Williams, Jeff Bridges, Mercedes Ruehl, and Amanda Plummer, were brilliant. As was Michael Jeter, who stole his scene delivering a demented singing telegram.
The Fisher King also captured New York in a grim, dangerous era.
I love New York in June……..
Lidia, Lidia
Have you met Lidia.
Lidia the tattooed lady…
This was the first movie where I realized what a good dramatic actor Robin Williams was.
One of the best movies of the 90s and one of my all time favorites. But man, it’s so hard to watch sometimes.
Incredible movie. Robin Williams was so good at playing these darker roles.
One of my favourite movies ever!!!great great performance and great simple story.
My favourite Robin Williams movie. Such an underrated film, Mercedes Ruehl’s performance is absolutely mesmerising. Jeff Bridges is fantastic too.
The Grand Central Station dance scene is one of the best scenes in American cinematic history.
I shall die on this hill.
great movie,one of Robins best
Haven’t seen this one, but “What Dreams May Come” is gut wrenching.
The Red Knight design is incredible. Really scary, cool-looking, and horribly symbolic once you know what it represents.
“I really miss her, Jack. Is that okay?”
It feels almost like Robin was telling us something his entire career. I still can’t get over his passing. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I absolutely miss him and I never came within a mile of the man.
I’m old enough to remember when Mork and Mindy came out.
Next day at school we were all saying “Na nu na nu”.
Robin Williams was such a great talent.
He is missed. RIP
Shazbot!
God, that one scene.
>!When his wife is shot while they are at dinner, and a piece of her bloody head flies into his mouth.!<
I havent seen this movie in 30 years but I can still picture it.
I just made a connection. I thought this movie was a bit of a Don Quixote film, then thought I suppose it’s a grail quest, then I thought, I suppose Don Quixote indeed is a bit of a grail quest, then I thought, holy hell, Terry Gilliam has worked on Monty Python’s Holy Grail, the Fisher King and the Man who Killed Don Quixote. Mind blown.
Awesome movie +
*Lydia, oh Lydia, Say have you met Lydia, Lydia the tattooed lady*
I love the relationship between Williams and Amanda Plummer. It is so sweet.
One of my all time favorite films. Jeff Bridges’ story arc of hubris, downfall and redemption personally resonates. Been there without serious consequences (no one died) but yeah – top of the world then suddenly it’s all gone, and the people you counted as friends – even if you knew it was superficial – suddenly don’t know you.
Been a long time and I’m all good. But yeah. Ouch.
It’s a great movie. Expect to cry a few times though.
I like to think of it as a prequel to The Big Lebowski.
Jeff Bridges even wears the same Kaoru Betto t-shirt in both films.
Two brilliant minds.
can confirm, its an excellent movie.
I saw this movie when it first came out and it is still one of the best I’ve ever watched.
This movie is beautiful.
Jeff Bridges is never not good
This is one of those films that is SO effective at delivering its message that I could not possibly endure watching it again.
I don’t like sad movies about grief because they are painful, tbh.
I have not seen this. I started working in a local video store in 1991 though and I distinctly remember that this was a hugely popular video that was always rented out or on hold around that time
Terry Gilliam is brilliant. The Fisher King is great, and so is Brazil. And Twelve Monkeys.
I loved the song and dance at the end in the insane asylum. Fantastic.
Just a really good movie with two stars playing perfectly off each other. And Mercedes Reuhl won an award for her supporting role.
The 4 main characters are well played.
Amazing flick!!
One of Gilliam’s best films, and the way he uses Williams’ improv energy in a scripted film is pure genius.
My all time favorite movie.
One of the best movies ever made ❤️
I thought this movie should’ve been so much more popular because it’s so well done and had such as serious message with Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges.
