The overall package was a great experience back then. It had quite the novelty features with an intriguing storyline and a great soundtrack. Still listen to it at work these days
Love Deus Ex series. But Human Revolution is my favorite, by far.
Shits hard, how do you get through that first section?
**reinstalls Deus Ex**
Great game. Great Story. Broken RPG elements. I’m pretty sure everybody figured out by themselves that if you just put all weapon mods on the basic pistol it’s becomes a beast. Able to kill everything from miles away.
For anyone wanting to try it, I highly recommend this mod/patch: https://www.moddb.com/mods/gmdx-v10-community-update
It fixes the bugs, updates graphics, physics, AI, adds several QoL improvements, while staying true to the original. It’s also highly configurable in-game, so you can choose to enable and disable different parts of it, although default works fine.
The new games were ok, but they were lacking something the first had! No idea what it is…but its missing.
Given that System Shock was just remade by some of the original devs (I think), they should absolutely remake Deus Ex.
It was way ahead of its time.
That brings back amazing memories
Deus Ex: Revision on Steam is pretty amazing. Lots of achievements, too.
Every time someone mentions it, someone is going to install it xD
Arriving to Wan Chai Market is one of my favourite gaming memories of all time.
Man, I hate myself when I try to play this game and games like it. I got about a quarter of the way through, but something in my head makes me have to complete and see everything in the first playthrough. For instance, I’d find a way through a door, but then I’d have to find every other possible way through the door just in case I missed an extra clip of ammo or something. I know it’s not the way it’s supposed to be played but my brain is broken in that way. Deus Ex I remember being especially bad (meaning well made in this case) cause there would be like 50 options to get through the same door or completely different paths to explore around the door. Throw a timed mission in there somewhere like HR has and I just get paralyzed.
I feel like I’ve been taking crazy pills. Deus Ex should be right in my wheelhouse for stuff I like but the very first levels are just so rough with how inaccurate you are at shooting things and the abilities that you have access to are just terrible as well. They used a FPS game engine and absolutely gutted the FPS aspect while inserting a bunch of (IMO) half baked RPG ideas.
Human Revolution and Mankind Divided were both an absolute joy to play for the vast majority of the time.
I’ve tried several times to give Deus Ex a play and it just feels like someone handed me a handful of rock climbing tools and pointed me at El Capitan when I know nothing about climbing.
An amazing game that I absolutely could not put down! Too bad the sequels just didn’t capture that original magic for me.
This is my fave game of all time. To think there are people out there who still don’t know that you can save Paul.
A remaster would be awesome
One of the first games I remember with a “realistic” setting. Get shot in the arm? Your aim is screwed. Shot in the leg? No more running. Headshots were almost always always a game over, and if it wasn’t vision was blurry and everything was screwed up.
For those who remember:
– Are you sure you pressed the right button?
– I do not make mistakes of that kind.
– Your hand might have slipped.
– No. I wanted orange. It gave me lemon-lime.
– The machine would not have made a mistake….
– It’s the maintenance man. He knows I like orange.
– So you think the staff has some kind of plot?
That’s one of the best conversations I’ve come across in any game.
Oh shit I know what I’m playing after my 342nd play thru of new Vegas
JC Denton in da fresh
Easily one of the top 5 games ever. Excellent writing and story that’s believable, especially in today’s world.
what have u done. now I have to reinstall it.
is the first one better than the sequels? if so why?
Just remember it has no autosave. Smash the quick save
Deus Ex was so far ahead of its time, such a great game! I really hope they do a full remake to reboot the entire series again.
Deus ex definitely in my top 5 of all time. So good in so many ways
People tend to use MGS2 as a foreshadowing to what would happen in the future regarding information control and manipulation, but Deus EX did it as well years before it, and much better imo.
Man the only thing I remember is my mom asking my dad if it’s normal that I play a game named Deu Sex as I was 12 at this moment
One of my greatest moments ever was on my 2nd play through of this game on the plane where you meet the cyborg guy for the first time I lined the hallway with limpet grenades a he died. What left me gobsmacked was he was a major storyline character who had a big presence in the rest of the game and the game simply adapted and it changed the rest of the story to include his mysterious death.
Just re-played through all the Deus Ex games about a year ago. They are all so good. I love the “play how you want” vibe. Wanna be a ninja? Sure. Wanna be in a huge fire fight? Ok no problem.
Release date was June 23rd, 2000
So just about at the 23rd anniversary. I still have my big box copy I bought that long ago!
I will be replaying it for probably the 16th or so time this coming weekend lol
….. goddammit.
