  • Lmao they even committed libel claiming to a media outlet that he was a counterfeiter. [I have similar fake money](https://i.imgur.com/0A6nnVH.jpeg) and it’s perfectly legal. You can buy it on Amazon for like $3 per $10,000. This guy should make a shit ton of money, that lawyer will make a shit ton of money, and all of those residents are going to be paying $200/mo more on their rent.

  • This management company took a hard wrong turn. They could have accepted their mistake, paid a few grand to resolve it, and then moved forward on the issue of who’s on the lease. Instead, they’re now paying scads of money to a lawyer, they’ll likely end up having to pay for the guy’s stuff and his lawyer’s fee, and they’re dealing with a PR fiasco.

  • Man, so they knew they messed up but now they want him removed on a technicality.

This eviction was also illegal because from my understanding, and under Texas law, shouldn’t evictions have to go through the court/sheriff’s office?

  • I work in property management and wow. This management really did try to double down by threatening the victim then initiating eviction proceedings on him the next day. None of that is what they were supposed to do. I hope he documents the value of every single item because he is due his money and damages for their behavior.

  • I worked in Property Management as a maintenance guy. In my state property left behind at a eviction must be held for thirty days and then can be discarded except for items of value. Items of value must be sold and the profits are then applied to outstanding balance.

The law was never followed because people getting evicted generally do not have the time or money to fight back.

I hope this guy wins, property management is one the most unethical and often times racist business that people will encounter.

  • So he was subletting without permission? Okay fine you notify him that its a breach of contract and start the eviction process on him on 2311, same process starts with squatters that have leasing paper work or fake paper work, the property manager needs approval from the courts to confirm 2311 would also be evicted, I assume the paperwork was only for 2312, two wrongs do not make a right and if the checks were in his name then the property management is on the hook because it would show a difference in who owns the apartment.

Why he did not just have the ex girlfriend say hey I’m adding a new person on the lease IDK especially at 3k a month. But just because he is in the wrong does not mean the eviction was lawful as they admitted it was the wrong apartment.

Unless that apartment complex is is hiding something or the tenant is hiding something, the tenant lawyer is laughing internally so hard right now and the apartment complex attorney’s are laughing because they are getting paid to represent a losing case and still get paid.

  • During the initial apologetic phase is when you absolutely need to get video/audio of the company/landlord representatives apologizing and admitting fault. They are in this frazzled state, but they are still agents of the business. Their admissions and concessions in the context of their work will usually apply to the business. That would make it much much more difficult for the business to later back away from them when its own lawyers start getting involved.

  • I really don’t understand why the fuck they have to double-down and escalate this. I assume all this guy wanted was to have his things replaced. Are we talking about 20K? For a building that size and the rent they’re charging, that’s a small amount. Just chalk the whole thing up to training cost. But nope.

  • Regardless of payout this tenant may get via lawsuit, there may have been some personal items that got tossed that are priceless. I have some things that have been passed down to me that have been in my family for generations. Losing one of those items would be devastating, and even more so if lost in this manner. Smh

  • Former landlord. If I made a mistake like that I would have wrote a $10k check to replace his stuff, offered him a formal lease, and prayed for him to sign. $2500/mo for an apartment in a building that big? $10k is nothing.

  • Way I see it they will probably lose more if they keep pushing this through court rather than just paying him because if he wins he can sue not only for the sum of his lost amd damaged property but also for emotional damage, mental damages and probably a lot more I can’t name off the top of my head

  • Even if he was subletting without permission, wouldn’t that be on his ex girlfriend and not him?

To me, it sounds like they fucked up and the people who fucked up wanted to make it right. Then manager/owner comes in and figures out a way he can weasel out of making things right and in the process, destroyed their reputation and likely committed libel.

Not to mention that aren’t they legally required to post notice before entering the property? At least where I live, they have to post a notice at least 24 hours prior to entering unless you welcome them in.

What a shit show. I hope that $10k or whatever mistake costs them dearly. They could have made it right but greed won out…

  • Oh man. The Hamilton built a big ole’ sword to impanel themselves on.

Not being on the lease is a sufficient reason to evict through the courts. Paying $2,500 a month on time with a child would be lengthy process.

“We found counterfeit currency”? So you called the Secret Service and reported this; I assume a DOJ case is pending for felony charges?

Hamilton, you just pay him for his lost belongings. Front 2 months rent while going through eviction.

This is an example of hiding behind attorneys doesn’t help. Now millions of people have heard this case and made Hamilton Google’ed a sad case.

  • Absolutely vile. Every one of those employees who didn’t quit on the spot when asked to swing that excuse should have deep personal shame. The rich can only do this to us because of the ‘just following orders’ bullshit. Absolutely disgraceful.

  • “You’ll need to fill out this rental application if you want to stay here”

“I’m not filling that out until this situation is resolved”

“Whatever, we wouldn’t have let you stay here anyway even if you did fill out the application!”

  • In Europe and many other western nations, laws are written to promote the safety and wellbeing of its citizens, in the USA the laws are written to promote corporate profits and protect from lawsuits.

The laws in the US are upside down and until this is rectified the likelihood of apocalyptic riots will continue rising along with inequality.

  • Sounds to me like they found a bunch of cash, got excited they get to pocket it, then realized it was just play money and got mad.

The fact they found some childs play money and called it counterfeit is suspicious and ridiculous.
