I fully put the motivation to dance however I want whenever I want entirely on Soul Train. I watched it plenty on weekends as a kid.
Curtis Mayfield is my absolute favorite
So many fros.
I couldn’t imagine trying to find your boy in a crowd from behind. ” Hey Marcus.. oh sorry thought you were someone else. Hey Marcus… Shit sorry. Hey Marc, shit. MARCUS!!!”
Nice. Didn’t they always lip sync on Soul Train though? I remember staying up late in the 90’s to watch. I always thought it was odd that during the post performance interview that they always spoke into Don Cornelius’ mic instead of the one they were holding in their hand, haha.
great great guitar player
i see at least two people locking. make that three.
Soul Train clips always work.
After seeing everyone dance in this video I suddenly have hope for white peoples dance skills

The guy with the glasses and long sleeved shirt had the best moves on that floor.
Curtis Mayfield – what a legend!
Lip synching, but still cool as Wendy’s fries by the time you get home
Who didn’t love Curtis. Move on up was my favorite.
Soul Train & Star Trek were my Church growing up in the 70’s suburbs.
My mom still dances like this at weddings. She’s in great shape btw..
The REAL!!!
Curtis Mayfield was very popular when I was in middle school. It wasn’t until years later that I learned he was with the vocal group, The Impressions (“It’s All Right,” went to #4 in 1964), and I didn’t know until he passed away in 1999 that he had been paralyzed from the neck down after an accident nine years before–lighting equipment fell on him while waiting to go onstage at a concert in Brooklyn. I’m sure the media covered it, but I certainly don’t remember hearing or seeing anything. He could not longer play the guitar, but he could still compose and sing–and he did. His music was part of my teenager years, and I still enjoy it.
Those fros need to make a comeback
You maybe cool, but you’ll never be Soul Train cool.
I appreciate the side eye and smirks I get from older black dudes when I’m wearing my *Superfly* t-shirt. They think I don’t know. But I **really** appreciate the ones that stop, make eye contact, see that I know, and then give me a “my man” and a fist bump before we move on.
I used to love watching that show as a kid,
I’m pretty sure it has a lot to do with me becoming a DJ years later, making people dance and watching them enjoy themselves was something I always wanted to do.
Follow your dreams everyone and never stop dancing!
I want whatever the dude in the orange at 1:57 was on. Sheesh
My stepdad spent some time in a North Carolina prison in the 70s. He said that when Soul Train came on the tv in the rec room, you did not try to change the channel for fear of being killed, because it was the only time black women were ever on tv.
1:05…..my man cuttin’ some serious fuckin’ rug
This looks like one of those videos where they put different music over what’s actually being heard live lol.
Curtis was the bomb and Soultrain was revolutionary television. Don Cornelius created it by himself from nothing and it was so fun to watch.
Curtis mayfield is magic
My brother and I never missed this show. Loved it!!!!
When humanity hit peak “cool”
Bro my dudes and dudettes doing work in this video.
Full body workout, I’m sweating just watching them go. Cardio for the win.
Also, his voice reminds me of the episode on The West Wing where CJ Cregg performs “The Jackal”
Incredible music
When I was in elementary or middle school (mid ’80s) I tried out for a game show. Can’t even remember the name of it, it was a quiz show for kids, but the audition was held on the Soul Train set. They had some tables set up and we sat on folding chairs facing them, with the Soul Train set right behind us. It was amazing.
Bass player on that album is a real badass
