We cared for a pair of horses growing up, Pejinx who was a super smart (read: cunning) half quarter horse/half pony ex-cutting horse, and Sue who was a sweet but not that smart grey. We had some pear trees that produced hard and unsweet pears and Sue loved them. If you took her one she would start drooling a solid rope of spit all the way to the ground. One day my brother grabbed a lime from the kitchen and a couple of pears and fed her the pears and then the lime. She spit it out and pulled her lips back, showing her teeth and braying her displeasure. Peejinx then picked the lime up, chewed it a couple of times, and walked away. I guess he was just showing her where her place was but it was an interesting interaction.
