Control sets the gold standard for visual fidelity and effect physics in my opinion.

(Spoiler tag bc end game area in image.)

I’ve finally gotten around to finishing it, and I’m blown away. I can’t believe more people aren’t still talking about it. It displays a level of detail and visual fidelity unseen in even most recent games, runs as smooth as can be, and almost every object/texture can react in highly detailed damaged states.

What are some other games that have stood the test of time, running/looking better than contemporary titles at the time?

  • Fallout 4. The level of simulation in that game has never been attemtped ever again by anyone else. It is ridiculous that every object in fallout 4 has a memory state and can forever remember if you kicked a can from one position to another. Meanwhile cyberpunk 2077 has no memory on any of its objects, simply destroys npcs once they get far away.

  • I really wanted to like this game, but I found myself petering of playing it. I really liked the story, it was mysterious and gave me Lost Dharma Initiative vibes, but I found the gameplay to be…just sort of lacking? I’m not sure what it is specifically, maybe it’s the enemies themselves or something, but it just didn’t feel fun to play. I may go back to playing it eventually but I kinda gave up on it.

  • Control was the first game I finished this year, but it was a roller coaster for me. At first I didn’t like it and then it grew on me more and more especially with the story getting interesting, but finally it got to the point I was ready for it to be over I hated that sequence you had to keep repeating over and over on the offices
