Does anybody have any backstory as to why they were in Crimea
Real men there…
Not dudes I’d mess with…bringin death with flair.
These look like 3 guys who are about to open a craft beer brewery together.
There can only be one… Highlander!!
Based on their trousers, I thought they might be headed out for a round of golf!
Nails
There a similar photo of three Coldstream Guards as well.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE
Pants?
HHH on the left.
Marina does excellent work.
They’d make excellent additions to the Sanford Police force.
I wore those pants to work recently.
Cannon to the right of them, cannon to the left of them, cannon in front of them, volleyed and thundered
They look like they’ll bayonet you while singing in unison
The guy on the right is the funny one.
Those guys saw some shit.
After Sevastopol many immigrated to the US and fought in Union ranks during the Civil War.
Couple of interesting things about these guys:
* Their great grandparents would have been alive when you could be burned at the stake for being a witch. This didn’t end until the Witchcraft Act of 1735 which made it illegal to claim any human being had magical powers.
* Sigmund Freud’s life overlapped both with the gentlemen in the picture, and also with Judd Hirsch, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in The Fablemans last week.
Man, those guys got to wear pajama pants for their uniforms? Jealous
All of them were in their early twenties.
Those beards are hot AF!
Many a nut were cracked that year.
Lovely except the facing colors (collar, cuffs, shoulder straps) should be yellow.
These dudes give zero fucks. About anything.
And they were all under 40 yo.
Why the guy on the right have a normal hat on?
Is it normal for photos from 1856 to be this clean or was this heavily touched up before colorization?
Anyone know left-to-right what all their medals are? Curious.
Fierce lads, they!
They’re very matchy matchy
They are the exact images in my head when I think about old europeans. 😂
“Fun facts” about the Crimean war :
– it was one of the first war with “live coverage” , French and British journalists would use the telegraph to send articles back home
– this is why the disaster that was the charge of the light brigade instantly became a scandal in the UK ( both lionising the bravery of the troopers, and the incompetence / disdain of officers who bought their charges)
– British and French rifles had a huge range advantage over the Russian models allowing for situations where Russian troops could not retaliate before taking huge losses advancing
They will blend in well wherever they are battling.
Isn’t the guy on the left Richard Christy?
Anybody know anything about the guns the blokes have? They look pretty wild
cool staches and beards
My great great grandfather was one of those Scottish Highlanders that fought in the Battle of Balaclava. The famous painting called ‘The Thin Red Line’ is a depiction of that battle, which we have had hanging in our living room for the past 50 years, as a tribute to our great great grandfather.
