Is that Jason Lee from “My name is Earl”?
Bruh πππππππ
I miss the 90s advertising… and pretty much the 90s all together.
2000s date, 90s feel
I find it amusing that a public ad from the 90s ruffles our enlightened sense of modesty such that it’s now labeled NSFW π
Something something too many oversexualized ads
Those scissors look wholly inadequate to the task
I remember this ad from the magazine!! Lmao
Used to be subscribed to expert gamer. It was a decent magazine
is it me or is that umbilical cord really thick? are they always like that?
Dang, I wish I kept all those PC Gamer magazines from the 90βs.
They really used to do whatever in ads back then. It didn’t feel like a lot back then. It fit into the extreme aesthetic of the time. Compared to now though, almost every commercial I loved back then would get a company boycotted today.
Got to do what you need to do to sell shit-tier controllers only suitable for little brothers and other unwanted players.
Oh man, I remember this one. Still have the magazine I saw it in when I was like 10.
I remember this controller, it was hideous.
Pelican, like madcatz but it will work in a month
90s and early 00’s were something else when it came to video game ads in magazines.
Good times, I remember picking up gamepro and seeing what 4-eyed Dragon had to say about the most recent jrpg’s or LamChop and the fighting game reviews. These ads are pure nostalgia
Used to have a PS2 controller that had a fan built in along with other buttons. I thought it was the greatest thing ever. After awhile the fan on the controller broke and it would just buzz.
Doctor looks a bit like Jerry Seinfeld
The 90s and early 2000s is what happens when the workers have cocaine and not just the executives.
900mhz, You could probably play from the neighbors house on this thing..
Man if only they knew what epic gamer stuff we didn’t bring out on the markets…
Not sure why this is NSFW. Wish advertisers would do this again
This wouldn’t fly today because people are cry baby pussies who like to whine on social media.
Existenz!
Video game advertisements are always so fucking weird.
Holy SHIT I remember this!!
U look very edible
As a graphic designer, video game related ads (mostly western) from the 90’s to early 2000’s fascinate me because they have this distinct “feel”. And, yes this includes the crazy and weird era of GPU box arts!
I had a Mad Catz wireless controller. Thing was mind blowing at the time in my mind
Letβs see if we can get Jordan Peterson to tweet this.
Did that ad really make people interested in buying that? Would be interesting to see sales figures for the controller before and after this ad. Maybe their ads were more controversial than their controller was good though, never heard of it or the company behind it before.
Pelican means Alcatraz?
I remember this. The 90βs were a wild time in advertising.
I like how an ad from 30 years ago on a magazine for kids has an NSFW tag on reddit. Times do change, just not in the way you expect it.
[Reminded me of the N-Gage ones](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/ngage/images/d/de/Comercial_7.jpg)
Wow, never saw this one before but I do remember the 90s having some truly experimental and extra edgy ads for games, consoles and anything else gaming related. What was the game with the cover of a guy with a mohawk who has his mouth open wide, but has another guy coming out of his mouth with a motorbike and it continues like that? That one stood to me the most. The live action Crash commercials shit-talking Nintendo were also pure gold.
This was definitely the worst ad. It has lived in my memory for decades, accurately, at high resolution.
It turned up again on the internet about a year ago, and I’m so happy other get to share.
I was very happy to stream E3 from my 56k modem once a year. Those moments are like tears in the rain.
Man, 90s and early aughts ads really had no chill.
im stealing this for memeing purposes
There should be a Mad Men spinoff about 90s video game advertisers.
Donnie Draper: What is Sonic? Is he just a blue little rat? Fuckin’ vermin? No he’s… a time traveler. I see a glossy full page, a boy, an innocent child, perhaps he plays SEGA. He’s just walked into his parent’s bedroom. It’s a 70s bedroom, shag carpeting, big console TV, the works. The kid looks horrified, like he just saw something he ain’t supposed to. His mom’s in bed getting bonked, we see her legs sticked out from under the sheets. Her clothes are all over the floor. But if that ain’t bad enough, it ain’t the boy’s dad in there with her, if you know what I mean. We see the iconic red and white shoes sticking out from under the covers, it’s Sonic givin’ her the business. And that’s the pitch: Sonic CD. He’s going back in time, to fuck your mom.
If stuff was advertised like this now, Iβd 100% buy it
They were really creative with ads, once upon a time.
Donβt show this to the Republicans they might lose their collective singular half of a mind.
I remember that ad. It use to be in EGM too which was what I had a subscription to back then.
*sigh* When the world and the joyless perpetualy offended cretins in it didn’t take everything so damn seriously. Better days.
My Goodness, That Is Terrifying.
“We have a PS2 controller at home”
PS2 controller at home:
videogame ads were crazy back then
Ads that are funny and unforgettable > regular stuff
