The Blue Jay Gang (yes, they are a gang) arrived outside our bedroom window this morning to the distaste of our poor cardinal couple that nest there. They cause quite the ruckus wherever they go.
I don’t get Blue Jays where I live but, instead I have Western Scrub Jays and Steller’s Jays. For the first time ever I have had up to 4 Steller’s Jays in the yard at the same time and feeding off of hanging seed feeders. This is unusual as they are generally ground feeders. But, then I saw a Black Headed Junco on a seed feeder yesterday.
Jays do tend to be on the noisy and pushy side anyway.
Edit: By the way the bird bath is too close to the feeding tray. You will get all kinds of seed in the water requiring a water change much more often.
one of the few things i remember about my grandmother from Texas is that she DESPISED bluejays.
They would bully any other bird out of the feeder.
She had a squirt gun for all of us on the back porch to shoot the jays to get them to fuck off.
In my back yard around my feeder they always chase off my doves, finches, sparrows and cardinals (who all seem to get along and eat right next to each other in peace… then a bluejay comes in and chases everyone off.
More evidence that Bluejays are the assholes of the backyard bird world.

Poor Sparrow never had a chance.

Better then eating the young of other birds I suppose.
