This is the kind of movie you forget about, but rewatching it you suddenly remember all the lines and songs from watching it all the time as a kid.
Freakin’ love this one!
Is it on any of the streaming services? I assumed Max since it’s WB, but doesn’t appear to be there.
My kid would probably love it.
This was one of my favorites as a kid, I’m so surprised I didn’t wear the tape out. If anybody’s looking for it to buy they JUST released it on Blu-Ray.
It’s been almost three deacdes, and I still catch myself singing the half-remembered lyrics to Big and Loud.
Bakula doesn’t get enough credit for his singing talents but he really killed it in this film. But the real standout was Natalie Cole as the singing voice of Sawyer. Also, this was the final film project of the late, great Gene Kelly, who helped choreograph the dance sequences in the film, as well as being the final film role of Betty Lou Gerson, who voiced Frances.
My wife loves this movie and actually showed it to me when we first got together, we now both enjoy it
Pudge!
Darnit.
I have never seen or heard of this movie and I was a kid when it came out.
“MAAAAAAAX!”
One of the best childhood cartoons/films ever. Even if I didn’t get the musical aspect of the movie as a young scroundel, it was still entertaining as hell.
This one is actually pretty fun. It’s a shame it tanked when it premiered but there are some really great songs in this movie.
Every few weeks this movie pops up in my brain and I feel a tinge of joy that I thought I had lost. I think a trailer for it was on the home release of Space Jam, and I was entranced by it. And I made it a point to see it in the theater. Randy Newman really knocked it out of the park for his songs. The animation is great for a studio that only produced this feature before it was absorbed by Warner Bros. The performances are great. The designs are beautiful. A real shame this movie’s promotion suffered due to the Time Warner merger, because I feel like I should be able to talk about it with friends my age in the same breath as Anastasia. A re-evaluation is long overdue.
It’s so classic that I (a 90’s kid) have never in my life heard of it…
Discovered this from Cartoon Network’s Cartoon Theater in the 90s/early 2000s. It always showed this, Balto, Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, American Tail 1 & 2, those Looney Tunes compilation movies, the Land Before Time sequels, Iron Giant, and Wakko’s Wish.
Always loved the animal movie posters at the end
This is my favourite movie. I sing all the songs and dance my way through the movie even when it isn’t on 🤦♀️
I feel like we’re WAYYYYYY overstretching the definition of “classic”.
Warner Bros. made approximately two classic animated films in the 90’s, The Iron Giant and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Cats don’t Dance fits neatly among the rest of their forgotten bombs, such as Thumbelina, The King and I, and Quest for Camelot.
It deserves to be better known.
I remember some little girl at the movie store wanting to rent this and she told her mom “mom can I rent “Cats dont want to dance” lol.
“flooded the stage” still echoes in my head after all these years
