What am I missing with Bob Dylan? Nasally voice, average guitar player. Song writer? Is that it? If he’s your everything I can respect that. I personally don’t get it. Yeah, I know I’m definitely the odd man out on this “legend”
From the very first episode of the Johnny Cash show. Check out some of the YouTube clips. There’s also a great episode with Eric Clapton and all of the Dominos members except Duane Allman. Carl Perkins shows up and him, Clapton and Cash play Matchbox!.
Cash met Dylan in a New York City hotel room in the early Sixties. Although they had exchanged letters, upon finally meeting one another, “Dylan rushed into his room, jumped on the bed and began bouncing up and down chanting, ‘I met Johnny Cash, I met Johnny Cash.’” Although they fell out of touch as time went by, they remained friends.
I’ve heard a recording of the two singing a tune (I forget which one) a couple of times. It’s horrible. They were out of step rhythmically, and each one sang in what sounded like different keys with wandering tonality. It seemed to be mostly Dylan’s fault. Cash had trouble identifying what key Dylan was singing in. I now switch stations as soon as I hear it come on the radio. It’s painful to hear it.
I love this song and what a duo. True genius and greatness together. There’s a scene in the movie “Silver Lining’s Playbook “where this song is played.
Am I right in thinking they clothes-swapped for this?
Is this from The Johnny Cash Show? They played “Girl From the North Country” and it’s considered to be an iconic moment in music history
Great pic
What an awesome pic

The Dylan Travelin Thru bootleg series has these sessions – some great stuff in there.
There is an album of a recording session they did together around this time.
A few years ago the Country Music Hall of Fame had a collection on display about it.
I always have to laugh at their duet of Girl from the North Country. Iykyk.
1969 Nashville Skyline period. Incredible album.

Johnny Cash: The Last Great American

Strumming on that D
Did they exchange shoes? Cause Dylan looks like he’s wearing what Cash would wear and vice versa.
Who won?
1969, Dude.
If you’re traveling to the north country fair…
Johnny looks like he is wearing modern drip lol wtf he even got the slip ons
Johnny couldn’t find his boots that day?
I feel like this should have audio. 🙁
Bob Dylan: “No one is free. Even the birds are chained to the sky.”
Johnny Cash: “I don’t care about your damn yellow buzzards.”
I know I can search elsewhere, but I’d love to hear this song
This performance is on YouTube. Just search for “Bob Dylan Johnny cash girl from the north country”.
Back when Johnny was alive and Dylan could sing
Dude looks like Adam Sandler
Five decades ago they had the Johnny Cash show, now I have America’s got talent…. That’s a raw deal!
Thanks for sharing I’m literally sitting outside Bob Dylan’s tour bus at the Riverside Theater Milwaukee this moment moment.
Tear jerker of a performance, comedic relief aside.

This pic is from the rehearsal before the show. Johnny dressed in black when it aired.
I feel like their shoes should be switched.
