Bob Barker as a guest host of WWE RAW in 2009

  • The Raw Guest Host era is regarded as one of the worst periods in the show’s history. The show was already plagued with terrible booking and lackluster wrestlers but adding on guest hosts who don’t give a shit about the product made things that much worse. Jeremy Piven knew so little about wrestling that he called the upcoming PPV Summerslam “Summerfest” and had to be corrected by John Cena in the middle of a live promo. But Bob Barker is one of the only ones that people actually liked.

And like many awful things in this world, Trump is a major part of it’s creation. In this case, Trump’s appearance on a 2009 episode of Raw where he announces that he “bought” Monday Night Raw. An angle that went so poorly that the next day, WWE stock prices fell 7% and the company had to send out a press release telling investors that it was just a storyline. The next week on Raw, Vince wrapped up the Trump storyline but used it to introduce the world to the Guest Host Era and some of the worst 11 months of programing in the show’s history. And once that was done, Raw immediately went into the Anonymous GM era of the show which was just as bad.

Just thought I’d give a little context for non-wrestling fans as to how beloved Bob Barker was. During a particularly dogshit time in Raw’s history, he made things suck just that much less for the fans.
