Before writing and recording, “The Simpsons” theme song, or composing the scores for “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, “Batman”, “Beetlejuice”, “Justice League”, “Goosebumps”, “Spider-Man”, or any of more than 100 other movies you love, Danny Elfman was frontman for 1980s band, “Oingo Boingo”.

His new music is great in the best (weirdest) way also.

I ADORE his Spider-Man theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNti8jHPOG0
Yes every few years I go through lonely nostalgic oingo boingo phases I listen to their best songs over and over again
Out of control (my personal favorite and their very best in my opinion)
Only a lad
Little girls
Weird Science
You know those good old days
Danny Elfman seems as though he’s constantly on the verge of hysterical laughter. To be fair, “Dead Man’s Party” is a funny song.
Another interesting bit of Oingo Boingo knowledge is that Steve Bartek, who was a founding member, lead guitarist, and song writer with Oingo Boingo, and who has continued to be a song writing partner if Danny’s on many of the scores he’s composed, was a founding member and song writer of 1960s psychedelic rock band, “Strawberry Alarm Clock”.

I’m just gonna leave this here…

My favorite song from Oingo Boingo was “It only makes me laugh”
Nothing to Fear is a solid album.
Whoops I was wrong in my last comment my favorite song by them is we close our eyes
Not gonna lie, you really had me in the first half of the title there.
He’s a mad genius.

So then his first movie credit must have been *Back to School*, in which he plays a college party and plays so loud it blows out car windows. I love that movie.

who doesn’t know this?
Fun Fact!
**The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo** (the band’s original name) was formed in the 70s by Danny and his brother Richard. They first appeared LIVE on the television show “The Gong Show” hosted by Chuck Barris, in 1976.

And was married to Jenna? Right?

Ok, this is a bizarre movie that he’s in. He plays the devil. This is from 1980, so there’s a good amount of stuff in here that’s going to seem cringe today. I’m actually surprised this hasn’t come up before regarding him.

Is this a Jojo reference?
He was on Marc Maron’s podcast last year and it was a good interview
Can’t hear this song without picturing RDJ on his back spread eagle
Saw the Ramones in 1991 at the Ritz. Cool show. The highlight of the night was they played Smells like Teen Spirit between bands. The place went fucking crazy into a huge mosh pit.
“In April 1989, The Ritz moved to the site of the former Studio 54 on 254 West 54th Street, where it was called “The New Ritz””
My fave band! Also the Forbidden zone is so weirdly fun and they were a band in the 70s too!
I wonder if anybody has ever shown Danny Elfman the reference to Oingo Boingo in JoJo’s bizarre adventure
In 1983 I saw Oingo Boingo play at Day On The Green in Oakland Ca. The lineup (in order of appearance): The Fixx, Thompson Twins, Madness, Oingo Boingo and The Police.
It’s still the best show I’ve ever been to.
Gives me some real “keyboardist from video killed the radio star” vibes
[Steve Bartek](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0058418/) from Oingo Boingo is also a major composer for movies and television.
Oingo Boingo was freaking amazing live… check out their first appearance on The Gong Show some time.
Fun fact, Oingo Boingo, at its height, played Grand Lakes University, for one Thornton Mellon.

How Oingo Boingo changed my life: I went to see them some random Halloween. In front of me were two bro dudes. And they? We’re have the MOST fun. Knew every lyric. Danced and sang all night. I knew then that *I* wanted THAT. I started going out of my way to see the music I truly loved. Travelled the world and met all kinds of people. Took me awhile, but I finally found that place where me and my friends, sang every lyric and danced all night. Thank you, Oingo Boingo.
He also made a gross song about loving little girls.

This is really an amazing performance by all of them, but I love his vocals especially.
Holy shit… Stay by Oingo Boingo is genuinely one of my go to tracks (thanks Donnie Darko)
This is mind blowing
