Banks in games are totally cool storing weapons, currencies, body parts.
Meanwhile my bank is like “Where is this $25 dollar transfer coming from!? Better take 5 days to verify it!”
All those bandits lives wasted, trying to steal my stuff from the character. Little do they know, i have 100 times the worth in a simple wooden chest near the town campfire, where a lvl 5 guard casually patrolling it every 2 min.
This was my playing Pathfinder Kingmaker yesterday when I needed to run a solo mission and had to deposite 2000lbs worth of random weapons, armor and trinkets.
That looks like patty black working the counter, and I believe that frog is Keith Richards’ kid. If so, those are Knick knacks, Patty Black, give the frog a loan, his old man’s a rolling stone.
Speaking of banks, how many RPGs have banks that let you accrue interest? I only really know of three.
First is Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass (yes I’m talking about that weird game again), where opening certain chests causes your bank account to gain 20% interest. Also, having 100k in your bank account is required for a certain late-game dungeon that rewards you with life insurance when you beat the boss of the bank.
Second is Pokémon Gold and Silver, where you store some of your money with the bank of your mum. No really, that’s a thing you can do. She even gives you items for saving with her. Pretty out-there stuff, right?
And third I can think of off the top of my head is Bug Fables. The Ant Bank accrues 2% interest on your stored berries every 30 minutes of playtime. If you deposit 500 berries in one go, you get a special membership card that effectively doubles your interest (but you only get the card only once).
Also, while it doesn’t have an interest mechanic, I have to bring up EarthBound as a special mention when it comes to banking in games. Specifically because when you gain money from defeating enemies, rather than getting it outright, it goes straight to Ness’s bank account. **Courtesy of his dad.**
…let’s just think of the implications here. Ness’s dad is paying him for every enemy he defeats. This gives me the impression that Ness’s dad runs something like a bounty-hunting service, making Ness a bounty hunter by proxy. It’s kinda messed up, and I kinda love that about Motherlikes. You’ve got weird adventure, grounded mundanity, AND dark stuff all in the same pot, like some kind of trifle or tiramisu.
I imagine most NPCs get desensitized to it. Like my Mr Handy in Fallout 3 as I peek in the door of my Megaton house and yeet 200 pounds of loot across the room into a locker and then immediately leave for the 2000 time.
> Look, Hunter. We need to have a talk. While you were out, I was going through… I mean, I was tidying your item box and I found… Dung. Dung… WHY IS DUNG IN YOUR ITEM BOX?
Can someone tell if this cute little frog has a name? I’ve seen him before and it genuinely puts a smile on my face whenever I see this adorable little frog.
Me: Behold: I bring to you a legendary weapon from the Third Age, one so mighty that the five gods each dedicated an army and one of their trusted commanders to recover it. This weapon can lay low even the mightiest of foes with but a single stroke. Take care of it.
“Yeah you can store that priceless Elder Artifact capable of rending time and space and destroying worlds, that one that the gods themselves are hunting for. We’ll totally keep that safe for you!”
Runescape banks also be like:
“Nah sorry you can’t store that magical battery that fits in the palm of your hand. We won’t tell you why. Fuck you”.
ESO has a great banking system that lets all of your characters access everything inside of it hassle free, one of the things I like best about that game, in WoW as far as the last time I played goes, all of your characters have separate banks which can get annoying
Then you travel to another zone continent/ county/ city/ dimension/ plane of existence/ whatever and the bank branch there has all your stuff waiting for you.
How is the sword not melting the gold?
same thing with inventories

Needs more moldy dungeon food
Sword of Eternal Fire? You can’t even equip that until level 30. How the hell did you get your hands on it at level 2, frog?
That one poor crate….

Diablo 2 – the everlasting problem of the stash being too small… But carying around 300 00 coins? Easy!
Pokemon mystery dungeon storing orbs
Banking in Hollow Knight:
Sucker
Qwest?
Meanwhile in Majora’s Mask, you deposit money into the bank, go back in time, then are able to pull said money from the same bank.
This is why Escargo Express limits you to 3 items at a time.
In RPGs I have never *stored* loot or equipment. I have only ever *sold* it.

That frog is so cute :b do they have any merch?
credit to lvl2frog. great comics.
“I’m sorry sir, these coins need to be rolled.”
Also, ignore the 25 rat skulls it’s got a side-quest but I need a slot for a story item trust me
I love these comics, u/lvl2frog!
I am dreading to when I have to organize my Monster Hunter box…

Haha awesome. It’s always surprising how much u can fit in those inventory slots. Must have to be so jaded as a game bank teller
pretty funny that the people at the grand exchange wear modern suits in a midieval RPG
I like how well mannered the frog is. Customer facing roles don’t see enough of that!

Banker: Yeah, no sweat. Third one today alone.
*Don’t mind this severed head, I’m planning on cashing him in later*
Whoda thought the sword of eternal fire would be hot?

lvl 2 with sword of eternal fire. op frog
I absolutely love where it shows him from behind and he’s hanging onto the counter. That is so freaking cute.
He has a heart of gold.
Every time I finish a boss trip on Runescape
Bank Teller: “Isn’t that the weapon of the Sun God’s Holy Champion?!”
Frog: “yes. I’m trying to be more of a Druid and it’s a two handed melee weapon”
Can this become an actual game?

He very smol.

Big pile of gold turns to a puddle due to sword. Sad day for everyone
RPG banks are awesome. They don’t make you pay a fee for being poor.
I wonder if they sell your shit when you die. LOL.
Unrealistic, I see no “ogre head” that I was supposed to return to quest giver 4 months ago…
Had to go follow you on insta. Love your work. Really brightened my day
Oh look it’s the bank of RuneScape
