I miss the days of getting demo discs with Pizza or magazines, or renting games at Blockbuster. I spent an unreasonable amount of time playing that first level of Spyro over and over. Hoping there are still a few of you here old enough to remember these.

Or in a cereal box. That Chex mix game was awesome.
My ass not about the pizza, these were awesome additions though,I know I still have some in cd binders somewhere
I maintained a PSM and OXM subscription until they stopped including a demo disc. Was a sad day when it was discontinued, and demos in general seemed to die out. Guess there’s no huge need to demo a game when you can see a live playthrough on launch day in the age of YouTube and Twitch.
A close parallel for me was DOS/PC shareware discs, which always seemed to compete to have the most inflated game count to brag about on their cover. My parents liked them because they were cheap, and would keep me occupied for many hours just diving through their content and giving everything a spin.
“Cooooooooooooooool Boardeeeeeeeeeers”
Ape Escape and THPS demos on the same disc?? That one’s gold.
Rollercoaster tycoon in the cereal box was peak childhood gaming.
Also the ps1 demo disks
*we need to go back*
“So here I am. Doing everything I can”
I seem to remember a Pizza Hut Demo with Metal Gear Solid on it somewhere too.
Pizza Hut had such great promotions over the years; Book It, various Saturday Morning Cartoons on VHS, game demos…
…and pizza.
I still have disk one. Always wanted both.
I played that Sled Storm demo so much! Until I finally got the game, what a classic
God, I played the absolute hell out of a demo disk that had MediEvil and Metal Gear Solid. I miss those days.
Did anyone actually win those contests?
…but disc 2 was printed in purple…
Random aside: Do we typically define ‘back in my day’ as a time when we were simply the happiest? Had the least responsibilities? Were most easily pleased?
Imagine a pizza hut gave out a demo disc for Starfield.
I still have one of those cd books that’s filled with old PS1 demo discs. I have most of them from PS magazine starting at #6!
I had the disc with Ape Escape, and another disc with Metal Gear Solid.
Those discs are 100% the reason I bought those games.
I wish Demo Discs would make a comeback.

I got a demo disc once which had Demolition Derby 2 on it. It wasn’t until I played it about seven times that I realised it was a rolling demo…
I really felt something seeing this pic. Amazing how much freaking fun my younger self could have playing the same demo levels over and over. Just really being in the moment.
Thinking about it I don’t think us in the UK got those.
I’m a huge Final Fantasy nerd and that all started by playing the Dollet mission from that FFVIII demo over and over again as a kid.
NO LIES TOLD HERE….
This is how I got gud at the Driver test mission
I grew up pretty poor, so those demo disks were a lot of fun for me and entertained me for hundreds of hours.
The spyro 2 demo on that disc had a fun glitch. You could jump and charge into the pool of water on a platform where a chef was trying to cook baby turtles. It would glitch out and allow you to fly (swimming animation) all throughout the level indefinitely.
CTR, Ape Escape, Tony Hawk and FF8 on a single demo disc. What a time to be alive
In Denmark, there were also demo discs or small games on Kellog’s Cornflakes packages occasionally. I remember getting action-man game and lego bionicicle games
Take me back, I got so many hours of time off of those demo discs… 😭
Disc 1 is fucking solid
Holy crap what a flashback lol
Were the discs frozen as well ?
When I was young Kelloggs put free full versions of RollerCoaster Tycoon in cereal boxes as well as a couple other games.
I miss Jampack Underground Demo discs
I call BS. It was about the pizza and demos. I can still taste the big New Yorker
That 2nd disc demos are elite on a diff level
I remember once I bought a magazine from a scholastic book fair when I was in like 4th grade not to read it but because it was going to include a demo disk for PC games.
Man those cover images were just unlocked in my brain.
I wore these demo discs down to nothing; these and Jampack ‘98
sled stormwas awesome
If it was really back in your day, you’d know putting the discs out like that scratches them.
I won that 500k
Had a blast playing sky landers, the nostalgia
I had disc 1 as a kid and I played those demos so fucking much
