Am autistic, am also a screenwriter and I don’t really care about autism portrayed in the media. Movies are for entertainment, movies are fantasy and anyone going to watch a film on the basis of accuracy is doing themselves disservice. Go make a friend whose autistic and get to know them if you want accuracy. As long as movies get the basics, that’s enough. If they want to get things right or wrong, that’s their choice.
Hollywood cant even get physics or history right in movies, should audiences really expect them to get disabilities right? It’s all make believe in the end and even as ridiculous as that Travolta stalker film was, it’s just a movie. I don’t take that any more serious than I do Shane Blacks “the Predator” stating autism is a superpower or whatever.
Not all us are the same, and its up to you as people if you want to know what its like to have this disability, by all means ask. Some people see it as a curse, some see it as a blessing, some see it as “whatever” and do their own things in life.
I get more irritated at seeing people getting offended on my behalf regarding these movies without even asking what I think about it. Even if I’m just one person on the other side of an argument or of I have a separate argument to make. :/
