45 years ago in 1978, the Grateful Dead played 3 shows in Egypt at the Giza Sound And Light Theater in Cairo. Local musician Hamza El Din would join the band for the opening song, "Olin Arageed”. Along for the trip was photographer Adrian Boot who took photos of Jerry in the desert. In a recent essay about the trip, Boot wrote, "Over the next week I would travel with Jerry Garcia to the tombs of Sakkara and the ancient city of Memphis, wander around the pyramids with Bob Weir, and bump into Ken Kesey, reputedly the source of a specially procured liquid.
