  • He was my childhood hero. My mom let me rent all his videos at an inappropriately young age; I was probably around 8 years old, watching him shoot all these motherfuckers and cut guys in half in Running Man.

We lived in the same town as the Arnold Fitness Expo but we couldn’t afford tickets. Subway was running a promotion where if you bought some sandwich combo, they’d give you a barbell shaped water bottle. My Mom was so fucking cool she got me one, and I’d sit there watching the movies, pumping my water bottle thinking I was ready to take on the fucking T-1000. Rightly or wrongly, the guy will always have a small place in my heart.

Recently finished Total Recall, his autobiography. What a life. Listened to the audio version, he only reads part of it (I wish he read the whole thing), but it was still an entertaining listen. Him talking about post-war Austria was especially interesting. He’s made plenty of mistakes, many of which he shows tremendous insight into and others which, frankly it doesn’t seem like he has considered at all. Overall uniquely human, and despite his foibles has accomplished some extraordinary things.
