Must a Michigan kid. Big refunds. Welcome to Iowa. Home of the .05 return.
We are no doubt of a similar age,…. Nice one pal, made me reflect for a moment just then, deffo old school cool
5¢ in Massachusetts
My Sainsbury’s has installed a machine that gives 5p per item on glass and plastic bottles and drinks cans
Sure. Did it last week. Oregon here.
I remember Newcastle Brown bottles fetching 7p a pop
Our baseball team did fund-raising bottle drives where you’d go door to door and ask people for their empty bottles. Seems a bit crazy now.
“Hey you aren’t talking about that Michigan bottle deposit scam again?”
By 1988 I remember it being soda cans and plastic bottles, where you put them into a machine that sliced and diced them and gave you 5 cents per can and 10 cents per bottle. I also vividly remember the smell around those machines – like rotting sugar. Kind of what it was actually.
I remember when you could get two packs of Panini stickers for one bottle. Stickers were 5p and the bottle gave you 10p on return. We’d scour the village during school holidays digging about in bushes for discarded bottles, you could get up to a pound on a good day.
