Amazon sued for fraud (2:18) for lying about their 2 day shipping times

  • Been happening to me with almost every order now. An item will have the prime 2-day shipping label, then after checkout, the order is suddenly set to be delivered 2 weeks out or whatever.

  • Good, this is happening to me all the time now. I’m paying $140 a year for free 2 day shipping and the last couple of items that show “prime shipping” have delivery dates a week out.

  • This is why you complain every time a package is late. I no longer have Prime, but when I did complain they would give me a free month for my subscription. It was happening so often I had raked in over two free years of Prime without having to pay for it.

This might not be suitable for everyone, but since I didn’t need the items right away I gladly took it.

*This was several years back, they might have changed their policy by now. YMMV

  • I got pretty pissed off when I ordered something (prime member) and they offered basically 5 day free shipping, or I could pay an extra $3 and have it delivered that day. How are you offering 2 day free shipping with prime in that case? I get it that shit happens and may not always be 2-day but if same day is possible and you can’t meet your 2 day obligations they should eat the 3 dollars.

  • Amazon still has its uses, but between rampant counterfeit products, the complete lack of interest in reforming their once fantastic user review system, and then delays in shipment, they’ve transformed from being a ruthlessly efficient logistics machine. Now they are more akin to that weird part of a mall in an asian supercity, where real products and knockoffs intermingle, amidst phone unlock booths and some pretty questionable, but undeniably delicious food.

  • they will not get anywhere with this. The Prime TOS was updated with their price increase to $129.99 annually.

it clearly states that large ticket items sold be third parties participating in the prime program are only subjected to the 2 day delivery window after it is shipped. It goes on to explain that it may take 5-7 business days for a third party to ship your product.

I went off on them when I found this info buried in the TOS instead of it being blatantly advertised. When they tried to point out I got prime video with my membership, I said “cool, that’s not why I’m paying you” and pointed out how it was anti-consumer. With “2 day” shipping being plastered on every item that doesn’t qualify for 2 day shipping, it persuades people into buying something they could’ve gotten faster from a competitor.

walked away from the conversation with 2 free years of Prime.

  • I can’t remember the last time I got something in 2 days. Even when it says “order within the next ### to get it by X”. It’s never on time.

You should see my current order that was to arrive in 2 days. It got to my town, handed to USPS who then promptly shipped it 2 states away, never to be seen again.

  • My “2 day shipping” has been shipped our for 9 days, and is not expected to come to me until the 24th of JANUARY, I bought it on black Friday. Also, it’s just in the next city over, not even in another country. Does anyone know anything I can do?

  • I cancelled prime early this year. The reviews are fake. The products are shit. And the shipping times are lies. On top of that, Prime video just isn’t that good. The price increase was bonkers. Fuck amazon. I don’t get why people still think prime membership has any value. It’s a scam.

  • My thought is “supply chain” issues are BS, at least for in-stock items. If the item is in stock they should be able to ship it within the two days in most of the continental US.

  • This has been pretty frequent for me since Covid. Things have improved but it’s not uncommon for it to arrive late. They used to give you a free month of Prime if you complained about the delay but it’s been so frequent that they pretty much tell you to get fucked now.

Maybe an even bigger peeve for me is the website saying “If you order in the next 47 minutes it ships today.” It’s always a lie if it’s anything under 3 hours or so.

  • Is this for 3rd party sellers?

Cos stuff sold with FBA in my experience usually ships the same day, even if you choose the slowest shipping option. In fact, occasionally I get the item in my hands the *same* day I order if I order early in the morning – and it ends up arriving about 3pm.

Their website still tries to trick me into signing up to prime for faster shipping…

  • We should be suing for their corrupt reseller/ return policy. There’s a news story up here in Canada that goes like this:

    * Fellow orders a graphics card from Amazon (reseller **shipped by Amazon**)
    * Box contains what appears to be a cheap graphics card loaded with some sort of resin to simulate the weight of the high end one he ordered.
    * He sends it back to Amazon for a refund
    * Amazon says “We’ve destroyed it because it was a biohazard and we won’t refund your money **until you return an ACTUAL copy of the high end graphics card.**

  • We haven’t had 2 day shipping available in years. We cancelled Prime because it literally became another streaming service and nothing more for us. We still purchase things on Amazon because we’re rural, and it’s hard to get things here sometimes, but I’m not giving them extra cash just for them to dangle that carrot.

We’ve also noticed that most 3rd party sellers often mark orders as shipped several days or sometimes weeks before ACTUALLY shipping. We’ve been trying to find ways to hold anyone accountable for this for a while too and no one cares.

  • I do Subscribe and Save for a lot of my groceries and regular consumables through Amazon because the 15% discount makes it cheaper than Walmart. With subscribe and save, I have to have my monthly order all finished up by the 20th of every month and then they are supposed to have it delivered by the 28th.

Despite having 8 days to get all my stuff together and get it to me, they have been on time 0% of the time the last 6 months. Not only that, but I would expect them to be able to get most of my items into the same box given that they have 8 full days to do it. It never fails that they deliver 12 items in 6 different boxes. I don’t want all of this extra packaging.

  • Huh. I noticed in a post a few days ago on the topic there were a surprising number of highly upvoted comments talking about supply chain issues.

And that’s not the issue. Either they can deliver in two days or they can’t. They’re claiming they can and do when they clearly can’t and don’t.

I wonder if those comments were organic.

  • My favorite thing about Amazon is I dont have Prime. I’ll order something and pick the free shipping which is usually a week or more estimate. It arrives in 2 days with the prime stickers all over it. Hasnt failed me once

  • Once a corporation gets to a certain size, the only way to insure higher and higher profits year after year is to just start fucking the customers and employees over.

Amazon is well past that point.
