Amadeus is one of my favorite movies ever, but for the life of me I have no idea what the poster is supposed to convey

Is there a film or history buff who can shed some light on the meaning behind the image?
Good question. Maybe it’s a character from one of Mozart’s operas?
Isn’t it death at the end of Don Giovanni plus the queen of the night from magic flute in the hat?
It’s a bit ominous and mysterious and also looks like Salieri.
Also that is a red velvet curtain…
In the 90s I thought it was a horror movie and never picked up the box (I was a little kid).
Confident it represents Mozart’s Father and is paralleled with the apparition in Don Giovani…
It also represent Salieri and Mozart (in his head)
It’s Mozart’s father Leopold whom, Wolfgang defied by marrying without his consent, acquired debts that embarrassed him, and continued to live in Vienna which was also in defiance. While at the same time Mozart feared him and his criticism. His darkest opera featured a Leopold figure as a ghost haunting a young man.
Omg this is so weird, I just randomly watched the movie yesterday for the first time and have been thinking about it all day!
Then I see this!
Its the darkness death, is the unavoidable destiny of each an every being, to disolve yet again into the void.

After all these years I’m still blown away by Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham’s performances.
So you know that half of the movie where Salieri was wearing this costume and showing up at Mozart’s home in the middle of the night? It might have something to do with that.
Uh…this is literally from the movie. If it’s one of your favorite movies, surely you noticed that you see this in the movie.
“Signore if you don’t open up this door, we will eat everything and leave nothing for you!”
I always thought it was a costume you might wear in opera/theatre , black meaning death/ominous on red background that looks like a curtain , or bloodshed
Watch or you will die!
No joke, go look psychology..
Milos maybe innocent as a newborn but.. buts are buts!
TIL I was wrong. I always thought this was meant to represent Salieri as he worked in secret to bring Mozart down. Very much like a puppet master.
That’s what I always thought.
That’s… a main character and one of the last thing Mozart sees before he dies. How did you miss it?

Is it weird that my favorite part of this movie is actually the moment in The Last Action Hero where the kid tells Arnold, “you can’t trust that guy – he killed Mozart!”
It’s a reference to Ghost’s second album, Infestissumam.
I always thought it was supposed to be the spectre of Leopold Mozart. Anyway, the movie poster is a modified version of the image used on the playbills for the stage play version of “Amadeus.”

Why are people so confused? It’s literally the main image from Don Giovanni. The opera he wrote wrote about his father. You sure this is your favorite movie?
I also love this film! I even named one of my first cars Amadeus haha
One of the best movies ، I have ever seen and seen over and over again and enjoyed every time and every time I was saddened by Mozart’s death
Coolest movie poster
The creature!
MoZarts pa, Leopold. A looming domineering figure.
BTW, the movie (based on the play) was total horseshit. Salieri wasn’t jealous of Mozart. Salieri was quite popular in his own right.
I love this movie too, my first time seeing boobs on screen as a kid was when I watched the director’s cut lmao
