It is but the constant upkeep of that roof is tens of thousands of pounds every ten years or so. Absolutely killer. I don’t know how these families afford it.
Credit to the photographer, James Lloyd Cole (aka jameslloydcole

Oi can smell some sweet Midsomer murders
The hobbitses are moving up in the world!
I can hear a British accent just looking at it!
That thatch is so full of rats.

Yup, that’s pretty English!
Thatched roof cottages!!!!
Tiny inside, often dark. No wardrobe space. None of the walls are straight. Looks pretty but a pain to live in.
We had one for a while, moved when we had kids.
It looks pretty, but I think of the bugs and humidity it must retain.
Though for a minute I thought of Hansel & Gretel!
I grew up in an old english house it was ugly inside, small, and my mum heard ghosts
Love that cottage! Looks right out of a fairytale.
My mother sold hers because the thatched roofing is such a money pit.
You mean it’s a cottage that is both pretty and English, or a cottage that’s pretty English?
Puzzle worthy.
Counterpoint, spiders
It certainly is pretty English.
man i’d replace the roof, but what a dream house.
The netting on the roof makes it look like a giant wasp’s nest.
Once upon a time, deep in the forest lived an old witch…
To all Americans this is how we live …. No really and at the other end of the lane is London and the king
Damn, i think i cleaned this house not too long ago in Power wash simulator!
Even with the fence n all, in the middle of the forest… Yeah that checks out. This might’ve been the inspiration for the house in the game! Pretty cool
From experience owning a grade II, I shudder to think how much it costs to maintain that thatch and wattle & daub. Cold, damp, inefficient floorplan… Breath on it wrong and Historic England will crush your balls to dirt.
Fun to live in for the first month, veritable torture for the rest of the time you own it.
Sad thatch.
