Ridley’s lost it. What was his last film that he lamented when it was (correctly) getting panned? He needs to quit casting ‘it’ actors and go back to creating films. Everyone loses that creativity and acuteness required for greatness, but this is more him just putting stuff out, ala Bruce Willis.
Remember to critique this film for accuracies like this sub did for “The Woman King” LOL. Lots of comments on color grading, sounds, and how it looks overall. KEEP. THAT. SAME. ENERGY.
It’s a tiny nitpick compared to other criticism of their choice of color, but it does make me cringe a bit whenever characters in a war film say calvery instead of cavalry.
Is that accurate? I was under the impression that the Russians were the ones retreating across the frozen lake, not the Austrians as depicted in the clip?
Im excited for the movie. Dont expect a movie on the level of Waterloo but I love the timeperiod and Joaquin Phoenix so there is no way I wont watch this on the big screen.
The fact that Stanley Kubrick could not even get his brilliantly researched and written Napoleon picture funded whilst Sir Ridley Scott is given carte blanche to do what he likes with a budget well over a hundred million dollars and then makes this seemingly ill-researched, muddied, machismo mess is a bit depressing, I will admit. But, then, there is always Abel Gance’s picture; so, every cloud has a silver lining and all…
The *ice under* is such a cliche in war/action movies. I’m sure I’ve seen it in a few movies, if I remember they used that trick in Clive Owen *Arthur* movie. Maybe Napoleon (the actual dude, not the movie) did it for the first time and movie makers copied that from his legend, and now we have to see it again. Just give an Academy Award to Ridley and move on. That man has done enough to deserve one.
I don’t think Joaquin Phoenix is a good choice at all to be Napoleon. Napoleon should be young, energetic, brash, and fucking French. They could get a single French actor for this role? I know Ridley Scott cast Americans as French soldiers in *The Duelists* but this is both a historical figure and a national icon.
I love epic historically based movies, Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix. But everything I’ve seen from this movie looks like absolute shit. So disappointing
Where’s the look at Waterloo (not that one in Canada)?
I fucking hate modern color grading.
Impressive visuals/CGI, but this is going to suck.
I’m disappointed that this does not look good.
Napoleon’s masterpiece victory.
aside from everything being blue and nappy having an american accent, i don’t get the hate for what i just watched.
Do they all have earbuds in to hear his directions?
Oh dude this is an absolute must-watch for me

Rent iiiit
I wonder who came up with the idea of this color grading. It’s shit. This movie will age poorly.
If you want an actual good movie about Napoleon I would highly recommend “Waterloo”.
Wow I didn’t know napoleon was American and could just yell things to the air and his whole army would hear it from miles away.
Shoddy, shoddy shite that not even the French deserve.
that clip ensemble looks crap. I hope the movie is better.

Looks like shit
Someone poured their blue raspberry kool aid all over napoleon’s battle field.
Everything’s a little fast, but I think that’s because it’s a clip.
Other than that, this looked fine. I don’t know what people are complaining about
Looks so bad.
At least they aren’t using the heavy rock music from the trailer. Still doesn’t look great. Game of Thrones battles looked more cinematic than this.

If this is Austrian territories, how did they not know that this was a lake? They didn’t do a quick Google Maps search on the area or anything?
Is that accurate? I was under the impression that the Russians were the ones retreating across the frozen lake, not the Austrians as depicted in the clip?
Please, this has to have been cut down for youtube. There’s no way the final cut of the film has editing this bad.
What? You didn’t care for the telepathic command and communication system?
Im excited for the movie. Dont expect a movie on the level of Waterloo but I love the timeperiod and Joaquin Phoenix so there is no way I wont watch this on the big screen.
Blue filters look nice. It’s often atmospheric. That Gladiator opening looks great. But this is just fucking dim.

I prefer my effort at the same location. Bourne Woods. Better grading and budget of £3.

To everyone complaining that this film isn’t accurate, did you have the same energy when you watched Gladiator?
I like the practical look of the canonballs flying through the water. Music is nice, but I wish the movie wasn’t so dimly graded.

It’s edited quite fast
I agree. I am also disappointed that this isn’t a 18 hour realistic battle.
I’m sure this won’t be totally trash and will be very accurate 🙂 total trust in Americans and English people when it comes to Napoléon 🙂
Why does this look so lousy?
This is extremely worrisome lmao

I can understand the main cast speaking English, but having the Austrians speak English as well is talking down to the audience.
