“The Lightning Tree” — The Settlers
Memorable theme song from the British family/ children’s drama TV series _”Follyfoot”_ (1971-73)
_(first verse only and chorus)_
“Down in the meadow where the wind blows free/
In the middle of a field stands a lightning tree/
It’s limbs all torn from the day it was born/
For the tree was born in a thunderstorm
Grow, grow, the lightning tree/
It’s never too late for you and me/
Grow, grow, the lightning tree/
Never give in too easily…”
(_etc_.) from Musixmatch website
One lightning hitting one tree
How did this shot happen? Is that a different bolt that just lined up behind a tree that already got struck? Lightning is usually overexposed and that bolt is weirdly faded and with the tree kind of on fire I’m just not getting how this happens in one shutter opening.
Or is there enough time where the ionized path is still illuminated that you could get it and the tree burning? Idk- any lightning experts know how that split-second plays out?
The creation of Wonderboy!
So sad, trees are lightning rods.
1.21 gigawatts!
Nature can be spectacular
This is just super cool looking
When you see a lightning, get inside, because lots of waters are about to start falling.
Sometimes a lightning bolt like this starts a fire inside the heart of a tree that winds up burning for much longer than the tree ever lived.
Anyone else see what I’m seeing 😂
Not sure I’ve ever witnessed someone referring to lightning in such a singular way as to call it “a lightning.”
This is how the tree becomes the Flash
One (1) singular lightning
Nice photo capturing this very moment. This is rare.
“…….fuck this tree!” 🌩️
is this real?
Sounding subreddit mfs when they find un-insulated copper wire and an outlet.

One lightning falling on the tree
Time to make a Wonderboy bat.

We treat *lightning* as a collective noun, like *water*. It is lightning hitting a tree, not a lightning. Likewise, we wouldn’t say that we saw a water. (You may hear someone order “a water” in a restaurant, but that is short for “a glass of water”.)
“And fuck THAT tree in particular”
— God
I would like to order one lightning please.
What incredible timing to capture that! Good reflexes, ha
I always wonder how people capture these. Is it a still from a video?
Wrong caption. Better: “tree channeling lightning into the sky”
Hope I t can strike Me and End me Next time .
