The picture is of an older (bbd April 2023) 6200 calories ration. It is a 24-hour Dutch Military dried ration with the high-energy and arctic module. It is a code 02 menu 3 ration. [Here is an overview](https://ibb.co/wgLhfVZ) of what is included in a newer but similar ration (code 12 menu 7) with almost 6500 calories instead.
So the rations within the Dutch military seem to work as follows:
– Dried ration
– Pouch (wet) ration
The dried ration is mostly for the light infantry and special forces as these are lighter. But they require hot water for the main meals. They are also used for arctic conditions as the wet meals might freeze. The relations have around 4200 calories. The rest gets the ration where the main meal comes in pouches (wet).
Then you can also add 2 modules:
– High-energy module
– Cold-weather module
Those come within the ration. The High-energy is for when you need the additional energy, like infantry out on patrol. The cold-weather module is a dried ration with an additional freeze-dried dinner. One of those modules is around 1000 calories extra, which puts the ration at 5200 calories. And you can also have both modules, which means the ration is 6200 calories.
Each combination of ration plus optional modules comes with a code and are supplied as a single 24-hour ration. Each code comes with 8 different menus. The calories between the menus can vary with ± 300 calories. For example, there is also a menu with nearly 6500 calories.
Of course, soldiers are only dependent on these rations when they are on their own (regarding food) in the field. Normally they would get their food from the [mobile field kitchens](https://magazines.defensie.nl/binaries/large/content/gallery/magazines/01-alle-hens/2020/06/09_kook-wagen/d200701jak6476xs.jpg) where chefs make warm meals, which are better ([64 meals divided in 2 seasons](https://magazines.defensie.nl/binaries/large/content/gallery/magazines/00-defensiekrant/2021/02/nieuwe-maaltijden/def_img_1549.jpg)). But those cannot always be there, be close-by, or get the food to the soldier, in those cases they rely on these rations so that they can operate independently. Other than that, soldiers also eat proper meals at their base.

Is that vitamin B or D?
I would love to live like this. Meal planning is a bitch
“Shoot, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff!”
Let’s get this out onto a tray…
Eating for 12 hours will surely keep morale up
Do you have to eat the spoon?
Is this Dutch or Dune.
The breakfast tea is made of the spice, Melange.
What does “Wild West” mean to the Dutch? Rotterdam?
Nice..let’s put it on a tray
I am assuming it must contain coffee and cheese?
The dutch have a military? What you fighting? Rogue windmills? Unruly tulips?
Mmkay, let’s get this out onto a tray.
Looks much better than a MRE😒
Would be nice to have on a bulk ngl
Geez 6200 calories seems like a lot for a day.
Not a single danish or short bread !
Would be nice if Israel let in rations like these to Gaza at bare minimum without blockages if they really cared to minimize civilian impact, but NO “the KHamas will steal it and eat them all and get fat so they can hibernate in their tunnels with big bellies, then commit more illegal terrorist activities”…what a stretch.
Koud weer training?
So much packaging
I worked at the company (in the Netherlands) that made the peanut butter, hazelnut spread and spicy sauce packages. Cool to see them there.
Biscuit Browns! Those bring back (painful) memories…
Beef Jerky is the morale boost
This wouldn’t even last a day for me on a long bike ride
Ik kon vorig jaar een aantal van deze rations van orifo bij medikamente die grenze kopen en ze waren best wel goed. 2 euro per 24h ration.
And the Russians the other day, were boasting about how their ration packs contain 3,500 calories for 24 hours.
Personally I wouldn’t have feed it to a dog and even in a new pack some of it came pre-spoiled as the packaging looked fine but was of poor quality.
Do you get sprinkles with this? I honestly can’t imagine 24 hours worth of Dutch food not having sprinkles somewhere.
What’s with the tray references I do not get it
“Nice”
