I thought this was a really well done and interesting essay. I love that it maintained an academic and film focused perspective that doesn’t just rake the genre for social and sociological sentiments that are very popular in American culture right now. This was touched on- but then wisely shelved for the majority of of the presentation.
I’ve always wanted someone to go ahead and make a movie about the black homesteaders, seems like such an intriguing topic and setting, a slice of history that happened and that just never got any cinematic treatment as far as I know.
