I watched this last week. First time I’d seen it since I was a kid, I’d loved it then but the length and wondering if it would hold up put me off watching it again. Shouldn’t have waited, incredible film.
For me, as the movie goes on, Clint Eastwood’s character grows in aura until by the end he is almost mythical. They end the battle, saving countless lives, He provides comfort to the dying man, he kills the truly bad guy by putting him (and his black hat) literally into the grave, then even spares Tuco. If he took the gold and gave it to an orphanage I would not be surprised.
I think i prefer the second one of this trilogy but Once Upon a Time in the West might be my favorite western of all time.
Many of the Sergio Leone movies were loosely based off of Akira Kurosawa’s samurai movies.
Not a movie I expected them to cover since they seem to focus more on 80’s and 90’s movies but I’m glad they did. Absolute masterpiece of a movie
I hope they review more picard in the future
Jay hadn’t seen The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly yet because he has spent every waking hour of his life so far watching his weird sex pervert movies
Clint Eastwood was a TV actor on Rawhide. His career was going nowhere.
Would he be interested in making a low budget, foreign cowboy movie in Europe with an Italian director with one film under his belt? He’d be the lead.
Of course. Can’t be worse than his bit part in the sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon.
And that’s how Clint became a movie star.
The role was first offered to a bigger star on the Rawhide show, but the actor turned it down and recommended Clint.
I really hope they do Once Upon a Time in the West next. That’s my personal favorite of all these Spaghetti Westerns.
It’s wild that the entire Dollars trilogy came out in the US in one year.

I love Sergio Leone movies so much that I am a bit disappointed with this review because so much is not touched upon.
I think Jaw will love Once Upon A Time in the West even more. Especially the OST.

I hadn’t seen this until about three years ago. I had almost the exact same reaction to it as Jay.
“This is one of best fucking things I’ve ever seen!”
