The artistry on display here is insane. I don’t know what the style’s called, but clearly they’re emulating that feudal Japan artwork we’ve only seen still images of – until now. This is like the Pulp Fiction of anime.
Day 1 ticket for Yuasa. Wish the tickets weren’t Fathom priced but not every anime film can get JJK0/Your Name/Demon Slayer money.
His last few projects did nothing for me but his TV work and Night Is Short earn a LOT of leeway from me. Love to see slightly different visual styles from him.
Saw this at TIFF last year and it was incredible, definitely gonna go again for this release.

curious to see t his. Yuasa is a real mixed bag. Always a cool concept but execution can vary wildly
Tatami Galaxy, Ping Pong, The Night is Short were amazing
Devilman and Kemonozume were nice but pretty messy
Kaiba and Japan Sinks completely fell apart in the second half and turned into trash

Finally the Masaaki Yuasa I love. His last two movies were a bit disappointing
This looks fucking great.
I am so ready for non-anime anime again.
There were a couple of musical callbacks to Queen in the first half of the trailer. That’s right up my alley…
