This is fucking insane. Some serious money was made!
Idk if this happens often in horse racing but that was epic
Jockey hit the afterburner at exactly the right time.
That ride by the jockey was unbelievable. From unknown to stardom in ~2 minutes.
I’m not saying it’s an easy job, but it seems like a pretty glaring error that the announcer didn’t mention Rich Strike moving up until he’d basically taken the lead. Just my completely uninformed take.
I don’t know shit about horse racing but that just gave me goosebumps.
Spoiler alert:

Has the same feel as the ending of The Black Stallion.
Talk about an extra gear, wow!
Vtec kicked in
What a great call by the announcer
I don’t think anything can beat [Mine That Bird’s win at the 2009 Kentucky Derby.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is4q1L6JiSI) He was dead last with a huge gap from the start but won by a mile.
Heart still beats fast watching a replay hehe. That was even more intense.
I have been a fan of horse racing for decades and that is the single best ride I have ever seen. The way the jockey found and managed gaps in the field is unreal. The way he managed the speed and turned it on during the stretch was masterful.
Yeah but the only horse that truly deserved to win was *CYBERKNIFE*
Fuck- that’s the one I woulda bet on if I bet on horses
Wow! They should have race replays like this all the time. I like how it shows how a horse from farther behind can make the maneuvers it needs to to get to first place. I really like that he was back with the pack , but like any good runner when he saw that spot open up – pow!
i wanna know how much cocaine he gave that horse and if its still alive or if it shat out its heart.
My bet was on Summer is Tomorrow, who started the race in first and ended last. You can see him fall all the way to the back of the pack in this clip (horse in yellow). Almost equally impressive!
Even Rich Strike was hyped. Kept trying to bite the other horse after the race. He must’ve taken something personally.
“If you 14 fuckers would just get out of my way….
“…um…. I mean, you 6 fuckers….
“…um… I mean, you 2 fuckers…
“…um… that worked out nicely!!!”
I can officially say that the best $2 I’ve ever spent was the $2 bet I put on Rich Strike to win. Totally on a whim.
You almost had me? You never had me. You never had your horse.
Someone struck rich.
Brilliant ride from the jockey. Obviously there was a lot of horse left, but the patience to wait on the gaps, and then to have the rail open wide up at the top of the strech… wow. Incredible all around.
Seriously, that horse deserves an early retirement after that effort. That has got to be one of the fastest, most athletic horses ever to race. Wow!
This was on my buddy Rich’s B-Day, so of course he bit on the 80-1 horse and won!
This might be one of the best calls I’ve ever heard live. It’s like the announcer was in my brain conveying how bonkers that it was that Rich Strike could be where he was. There’s both surprise and awe at what that horse did.
This was a cool tradition but it is time we retire sports that involve animals. They are unknowing participants in something that puts them in danger. It is one thing to ride horses casually and use them as beasts of burden for legitimate purposes, although that is a stretch. But pushing them to their actual physical limit for a gambling event is pretty shitty. Just bet on human events where all competitors are fully consenting participants.
