This is funny and all, but individually going over everyone’s reactions would actually help someone who hasn’t read the book understand the scene better.
In a movie scene, you can only look at once scene at a time. They show what the book was describing, but the meaning isn’t always immediately apparent since the internal monologe of the character is there to explain what’s going on. With this the cuts better imply what each character is thinking individually.
So yeah this is absolutely hilarious, but it’s also supprisingly effective.
