What is post apocalyptic about this?
I don’t think apocalyptic means what you think it means.
I found this video that explains why the rails need to be ground down as part of normal maintenance.

TL;DW: Over time micro cracks form in the rails which can cause the rails to fail. The grinding removes 1-2 mm from the top surface where the cracks first form.
Complex heavy maintenance machinery seems pretty pre-apcocolyose to me.

I was wondering when I saw the passenger cars at the end if this is just a team that travels all over and lives on the train. That would be a cool but weird existence.
