One time I was talking to a girl at a bar and somehow Animal Collective came up and she said she loves “this one song” but couldn’t remember how it went. This particular song being the one I am the most familiar with, I started singing it and she thought I read her mind. Now I think of that moment anytime I hear this song.
Love this song, but I have a major gripe. The chorus says:

But a social status ISN’T A MATERIAL THING. It’s literally an example of an immaterial thing. You know what IS a material thing? FOUR WALLS AND ADOBE SLATS. He contradicts himself twice in a row! The examples he gives are the OPPOSITE of what he says he wants.
Side note: I saw AC in concert a few years ago (maybe 2019?) and it was an amazing show, but the opener was AWFUL. Straight up unlistenable

Merriweather was legit. Definitely right in the feels for the college days playing Ultimate and traveling around the country.
