Absolute scenes
for context he is only the sixth person to kick 1000 career goals since the league started in the 19th century. Unbelievable achievement.
Already one of my absolute favourite AFL moments ever, absolutely crazy.
The best AFL tradition, so glad Buddy didn’t manage it last year before covid-0 was dropped as an approach!
My only concern was when Tony Lockett kicked 1000 goals, security rushed TO HIM to defend him, and provide a path out. Seems like they just went yolo on this one – we’ve learnt a lot about crowd crush since then, bit of a shame.

Aussie Rules Footy is the best football code in the world. More skill, more variety, more tactics, more physicality, more fitness… it’s just brilliant to watch and play.
Put your phone away and enjoy the moment. None of your shots from inside the mob will look good.
He’s been playing for a long time now, I remember hearing his name back in 2008
If you could bottle that feeling he had in that moment — one teaspoon of it would be enough to cure all sadness world wide.
I don’t know much about Australian football, but it seems like a fun sport. By contrast, I also don’t know much about cricket, which seems like it is incredibly boring.
If I saw that many people sprinting towards me from every direction I’d be terrified.
So how many points is it for the 1,000 goals? I went to an AFL game once when I visited Sydney about 10 years ago. Aren’t there different points for different goals and distance?
