seems like they are not totally following the original story based on the trailer, almost feels like they’re trying to just turn this into a one season show
The fact that there’s some Alice in Borderland people on this as well as the same effects studio as Godzilla vs Kong gives me some cautious optimism. There’s clearly more behind this than say, those weird Fullmetal Alchemist movies from a few years back. But it’s clear a lot is being changed and moved around.
I also maintain my prediction if this does become a hit, it will open the floodgates for more anime license acquisition and film/tv adaptations, especially between this and One Piece.
It’s remind me of the FMA movies, where it’s just caked in cheap CGI.
The Dark Tournament Arc is possibly the best tournaments of anime, partially because it’s fleshed out, it’s 1/3rd of the whole series; 40 episodes! They expect to be able to do the origin/training arcs all while condensing 40 episodes down to a handful?
I’m prepared for the tournament to start, then do a lot of the fighting as a quick montage of the team rising up the ranks to focus more on the behind the scenes discussions and save on the effects budget. 40 episodes cut down to 3-4 with a full episode devoted to Yusuke’s mid-tournament power-up.
maybe togashi will finally finish hunter x hunter now
Also didn’t it take like a whole season to get to train with Genkai? He’s already training with who appears to be her in the trailer, this implies within the first few episodes of what will probably be a 10-12 episode season. Don’t tell me they nixed the whole selection process for the sake of the adaptation? The cigarette in the dark trick is a classic, if that’s cut I’ll be sad.
Ultimately the tone of this doesn’t match Togashi’s works, it seems much more serious than it has to be, and far less adventurous, adhering to some sort of serious/action tone. I’m highly skeptical of this adaptation.
Why do all these Netlfix live action anime remake, both American and Japanese shows, all have pretty much the same look to them? All of them have that “high budget cosplay video” look with the Neon look during night time and desaturated, dull digital looking color during day time and everything just look too clean.
They’re jumping straight to Toguro? Season 1 of the anime is so easily adaptable to live action and paced well enough for people to just jump right in even if they didn’t watch the anime. Jumping straight to Toguro feels like a mistake.
no way they top the anime’s tournament arc
Netflix has earned my benefit of the doubt after One Piece, so I will give it a go. Still cautious after Cowboy Bebop.

I’ll give it a chance after One Piece, but it doesn’t look great.
Jesus are they speeding through the story

Toguro Bros let’s gooooooooo
Man this looks bad. Just visually I mean. YYH is also a bad choice to adapt to live action really.

The oh no anyways of Netflix anime adaptations.

Unless the trailer is misleading, the vibe check is a huge miss lmao Overly dramatic and missing all the charm of Yusuke’s personality.
Clearly the production didn’t have access to a big budget for the VFX/CGI but overall i like what i saw in the trailers.
no baby koenma and no tournament, no go.

The show doesn’t translate well to live action – they should’ve just made another animated movie and spent the budget on writers
I think Koenma is proof that some things just don’t translate well into live action. The pacifier in his mouth just looks really weird here.
I can give a ok to that Genkai cosplay. But that Kurama and Hiei boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yall need to stop.
