I love horses and have spent a great deal of time around. And my favorite thing about them is their duality. The same animal that is form made true of raw strength and unbridled elegance is the same one that just laid on its back rolling around before releasing a 15 second long fart and trotting off smiling unashamedly 🤣
What’s extra funny is that war horses often were the size of large ponies…. because they had to be able to be mounted in and outside of combat AND have short enough legs to better maneuver with a lot of weight riding up top.
Because they’re not the same. War horses were bred to fight war, modern horses are more docile because you don’t want kids getting murdered by trying to ride one.
They are not. Well trained horses are still 1k+ pound animals with a hair trigger.
I work with them daily. Everyone says this and typically gets bit, kicked or stepped on.
Bites are like a car door grabbing your fat and skin, solid bruise maybe bleeding. Fucking sucks.
Kicked is you’re dead to luckily just shot back 3 feet. (Had a girl have her pelvis fractured by her very well trained and very smart horse, trying to get it on a trailer)
Stepped on is you losing toes to all of your foot to a bad couple of bruised toes.
I’m comfortable enough to work around them with bare feet but every single moment I do not underestimate these animals.
TEHY ARE NOT DOGS. Imagine a fucking 1500lb dog and say the same shit.
Anyone who knows horses knows that they’re giant cats, not dogs. They are happy to see you when you feed them; in the right environment, they are completely self sufficient; and if they aren’t in the mood to do something, nothing will make them do it. They can be goofy, sensitive, and/ or loyal, but it is always on their terms. A horse is going to look out for itself first, and you by extension.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my horses. I respect my horses. I can’t imagine going through life without the giant goofballs I devotedly serve, but if I’m looking for an animal to satisfy my emotional needs or to loyally stick by my side no matter what, I’m calling my dog.
Warhorses and cavalry charges are really fascinating actually. Cavalry are psychological shock troops. Being able to get around the battlefield quickly and pressure formations is a very valuable tactical asset, but a cavalry charge serves a *purely* psychological purpose. Consider the fact that the tallest fence a horse jumps in the steeplechasing sport (a.k.a. horse hurdles) is 5ft. 2in, and most horses are not steeplechasers. Then consider that the average man, even in the middle ages, was taller than 5’2″. Horses are not suicidal. If they come up against a 6ft. Wall of bodies with blades sticking out of it, they *will* break and run. It is a 100% certainty they will not suicidally try to jump that line. But they will only break if there are no gaps to run through. So why didn’t ancient infantry formations simply close up every time? Doesn’t that mean horses are effectively useless?
And here’s the fascinating part. Psychologically, seeing 600 8ft tall 1000lb. beasts sprinting full speed at you is terrifying, and infantry formations didn’t have the option of quickly googling how dangerous that really is or what to do about it. Army regulars? Sure. They get training and could be taught to form up in front of a charge. But peasants and fuedal militias? They have no clue! Making a tighter formation is exactly the opposite of what their instincts are telling them to do, so they don’t. Instead they break up, opening their formation and creating gaps in their wall for the horses to charge through. The cavalry, having broken their opponent’s formation, can now run them down and slaughter them. The cavalry charge was totally dependant on the target formation freaking out and not knowing that all they need to do to defeat it is to close ranks.
Cavalry had many other uses, but the charge specifically was a purely psychological tactic.
We still can. Just have a button with some good wifi signal and I can launch missiles on horseback.
Big dogs. With hooves.
Not those ones specifically.
Big difference between a pet horse on a ranch and a war horse bred and trained for military purposes.
Makes me sad to think how many died.😥
You are not using the SpongeBob song in this video.
War horses had to be trained for years to overcome their (very reasonable) instinct to RUN AWAY FROM WAR.
Wonder what the 1000 yard stare looked like on a horse?
Dogs are intelligent, horses are jittery glass eyed dinosaurs

There are a lot of things, but dogs are not one of them
“we”
right after this clip the horse just up and died, because horse
Forward, unto glory, Derpwagon!

Years ago I was driving along a coast road and saw a woman walking her dog on a leash. It was the size of a pony.
Then I got closer and realised it WAS a pony.
Horses are definitely big dogs. A friend had one that used to play fetch ball. Tennis ball and even football ones

Yeah but let’s see what they do when they’re pissed off or scared. Dogs can’t instantly kill you with a kick.
Uhh yeah but they weren’t the ones making that decision
I’ve said this many times: I love horses because they are basically just bigger, usually dumber, dogs
Bred and broke horses….
Majestic they say.
Dumbshits, I counter.
Horses are dumb as fuck m8

And now they get to live how they want rather than be forced to die at the hands of things they can’t understand.
It’s much better.
Is it a myth they they can’t sleep lying down or they crush their own organs due to their weight?
They really are not.
I got biten yesterday by ohne of this giant dogs. You cann see every single toth in my arm.
Imagine if you had a dog that was that big and it was chill and you could ride it.

Maybe we should just stop using animals to commit our violence and let them be animals

Horses back then vs Horses today.
Dam Libs!
I used to work horseback quite a bit.
It can be challenging. A horse is 2000 lb animal with a brain the size of a walnut and they have an opinion too..
