I had spent that last 2 years of my life thinking Stephen Fry had passed away, and for the first few seconds of this had assumed I was watching some kind of AI recreation. A quick google was was delighted to learn he is in fact still with us.
Umm, is he serious? I thought this was just a sarcastic comedy routine, but I think he was.
GPT is great! I do four times the work of my co-workers using both it and other programming tools. They use paper and pencil, rulers, staplers, and snail mail.
Luddism has been around for a long time and it’s always a losing battle. To this day there’s people who still believe that digital photography is not actual photography. Go back farther and you have painting vs photos. The actual Luddites were against machines that helped make textiles.
People have the right to believe something is not art because a specific tool was used, but if you go back far enough everything is a tool that makes production easier. If we can create something beautiful with newer tools then that’s ok.
Nick Cave saying we are fighting for the very soul of the world… I say AI is actually closer to the soul of the world than the words of one writer.
Unfortunately the world is not getting royalties.
