Mr Bojangles, come back and dance.
he snapped
The pure enjoyment on each of their faces is contagious.
“Couple” seems to be oddly inappropriate, but I think “pair” or “pairing” seems make more sense.
I always think of the Shirley Temple commercials
Bruh he look like he about to eat her
Don’t know why I thought Mr. Bojangles was a white man in blackface
check out a book by Paul Beatty – The Sellout. Oddly relevant once you get to a certain character.
Bojangles…delicious.
If I’m remembering right the scene of them dancing was censored in some places. All because it’s a black man dancing with a white girl. Crazy.
Couple? I’d like you to take a seat here…
Very controversial in its day. They tried to stop them from holding hands. She insisted and said he made her a better dancer.
Tappa-tappa-tappa
“Couple” huh? Yikes 😬
I knew a man bojangles and he danced to live
Just so everyone’s clear – Jerry Jeff Walker’s Mr Bojangles character is not related to Bill “Bojangles” Robinson….so y’all can stop misquoting those song lyrics now
I feel like the fact that they are a couple(…?!) would be bigger news than them dancing. Wasn’t she underage here?
uh “couple”?
I just finish the movie the shape of water, I’m sure that I have seen a similar scene in this movie.
Couple?
Which film was this from?
Richmond, Va native!
Referring to them as a couple is extremely weird. Duo. Partnership. Team. Pairing. All better options.
why’d you call them a couple 💀 had me confused for a sec
I still remember watching this as a kid and it was one of the best taps I can remember besides dancing in the rain.
Shirley Temple was so talented that you only had to show an entire dance routine once and she had it.
She really loved him, and vice versa. He bought her a little car that she pedaled (drove?) around the studios and it was her favorite childhood toy.
Duo, not couple.
For anyone who wants to see what Bill Robinson was really capable of, check out “Stormy Weather” (1943) where he’s partnered with the incomparable Lena Horne. TBH, Bill is not a natural actor, but when his feet are moving he’s luminous.
On top of Robinson and Horne (again: incomparable), the film is an absolute murderers’ row of top black WW2-era talent. Fats Waller and Ada Brown’s numbers are pure pleasure, as are the high-octane antics of Cab Calloway – especially once the Nicolas Brothers show up (you’ve probably seen the clip of their absolutely whackadoodle stairs routine).
Suffice it to say: highly recommended.
Odd choice of words
As a white, in 2023, I can’t wait to remind anyone of color how much I respect them
Ed Sullivan paid for his funeral.
Couple!?
