GB News is a far right cesspool, don’t even bother
Well that’s my respect for Mr Fry dropped down a notch, that’s a shame.
GB News pushes Russian regime talking points, I like Fry as much as the next person but don’t give their channel any views.
Stephen Fry’s “the pigs are now wearing trousers” comment was a brilliant description of Silicon Valley CEOs.
Those nuns are very distracting
I can’t believe Fry is a guest on a GB news talk show making important points and pertinent assertions. You know what? I’m going to turn this off half way through. This is reddit. We only accept sound waves from ultra left wing sources. I really don’t care how much his points have aligned with mine, I’m going to block it out and cage myself off inside this echo chamber. /s
Anyone find the editing on this bizarre? Weirdly disorientating
Gbeebies? Oh, Stephen…
two rich old brits complaining about how others get rich.. whats the point?
GBN is just utterly laughable, right wing sludge. Not surprised they gave Cleese a show.
How dare these guys not respect the boundaries of the echo chamber of the neurotic Redditor??!
If we only allowed people to run things they actually cared about, instead of things that would get them power and prestige and wealth, we’d have a better world. r/notakingpledge
Is there a full version of this?
The irony of **two very rich men** exploring the obsession with money and power….
While I completely agree with what they are saying about “disruption” and the typical Silicon Valley mindset, I also think about how for the wealthy owners of everything, disruption is a threat. If you’re sitting in a position of privilege, you aren’t so excited about the notion of “disruption”. You want the world and the markets ordered they way they are – they way you, your family and friends have been able to navigate and profit from. Lets not pretend that the old ways were pure and just good craftsmen trying to make a better something. The thread of exploitation runs deep, but we like to ignore that.
Two rich, famous, successful, old white men complaining about people with money and power. Change the channel…
Man i love Stephen Fry but this notion that AirBNB “Disrupted” the B&B space is so fucking stupid… it’s just an old man yelling at technology he doesn’t understand.
There are more B&B’s now than ever… there are more people in hospitality job *that they want* more than ever… middle class families can rent out their space, meet new people, make new memories and MAKE MONEY while doing it. That was all entirely run by businesses/corporations before Airbnb and friends. And then end result is cheaper for the 99% of people.
The same is true of thousands of web-era businesses … Netflix replaced Blockbuster/Redbox and suddenly hundreds of millions stopped driving their shitty SUVs to pickup a movie…
There have been a plethora of net positives for society and our environment from the innovations and “disruptions” of this era, he’s just cherry picking and taking a very pessimistic view…
“move fast and break things” is an engineering/ product development philosophy though…
I thought this was great and more of this kind of talk is needed on right wing media.
The complete interview is at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZfGRZSub14
Was hoping that Fry’s involvement might get some interesting talking points out of GBNews, but it couldn’t be a more literally conservative argument.
Uber “disrupted” hire cars and taxis, and that’s A Bad Thing? Fuck off!
Uber “disrupted” taxis because it was a massively better service (at the time).
Modern conservatives don’t know who they want to be. Do they want all things to stay as they are and for tradition and “values” to be maintained, or should the free market reign supreme so “entrepreneurs” can prosper and hard work can be rewarded? Both! Neither! It’s all young people’s fault!
Not every man or woman have a price and is a nonsensical saying that should not be used
Easy to lament people for chasing money when you’ve got 40 million dollars.
Cleese can get fucking bent – retire you fucking sludge.
What is this stupid tv set?!
Anyway, mr Cleese is great. I agree
But also – just look at games now. Full of agenda and politics because devs must meet ESG scores requirements to make investors happy.. who believe the bs that this ESG sscore will sell more games. Creativity dies somewhere there
According to the comments, Fry & Cleese saying that they wish billionaires had some ideals and priorities other than making more money is somehow a hypocritical and apparently a far-right take.
Never change, Reddit.
Is Cleese ok? He responds like a man trying to keep up with the conversation .. ๐
John Cleese became the very thing he lampooned: a bitter and horrid old Leaver.
Both these guys have done loads of commercials for giant multinational corporations despite already being wealthy enough to not need even more money. They really have no credibility on this issue.
I fucking love Fry, throughout his upper middle class upbringing.
Yeah, sorry. I had to delete the rest. You can’t really live the bottom feeding shit until you’ve really been there. And that’s fine.
