Not nominating Hogwarts Legacy for best action adventure is criminal. One of the best games I’ve played this year.

It wasn’t that good to deserve a reward imo
the game is super mediocre , if it wasnt based on harry potter it would be called trash , it has nothing special , mediocre story , lack of progression , no choice and consequence , the loot is useless , level design is trash except for the castle , open world is boring and lifeless with nothing to do , lack of character development
Bg3 is not in this category? How?
These awards aren’t for objectively good games, they’re for popular titles. The fact that Spiderman and Star Wars are there already proves it. Although I don’t think Hogwarts Legacy deserves to be there anyway but neither do those in the image.
Hogwarts was mid.
The only good thing about it that makes it worthy for this list was the Castle and while it looked really good there was nothing to really do in it, the very old PS2 HP games had castles which felt more alive. The story wasn’t that good, and the spell progression was really bad. I had most if not all of the spells aside from the unforgivables by the time I did the first Trial.
Every game on this list blows it out of the water and even if you were going to expand the amount of nominees or remove one there are other games far more deserving.
If RE4 is classed an “Adventure” game, then so should Dead Space and that should be on this list before Hogwarts.
It deserves no nomination. Good to see tbh.
Let’s not reward games that were based on hate to begin with, thanks.
Completed it once and never touched it again. The game had plenty of flaws and it’s got what I would say a good foundation for what could’ve been a great game but that’s about it.
Wow, it’s almost like all awards are subjective and people can have different opinions.
Hogwarts Legacy was fine, it became very same-y, very quickly, and as others have said, once you are outside the castle itself, the open-world is very lacklustre.
I’d argue that the likes of Hi-Fi Rush, or Like A Dragon: Isshin, or Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty should be on this list, but again, it’s entirely subjective and you can’t please everyone.
Let’s be real, the real reason why people are so adamant that it should be nominated for anything has nothing to do with the actual game. It’s just a fine game, but nothing mind blowing. It just exists and the only reason anyone even remembers it is a reason that has nothing to do with the actual game.
It was dogshit so well deserved omission. Story except for perhaps sebastian was atrocious, progression was abysmal, let it fade away
Nah I don’t think it deserved it. Very standard open world formula, may as well have been ‘Assasin’s Creed Hogwarts’.
Once I got past the initial amazement of being in Hogwarts I quickly realised it was more of a full-priced tech demo
I think Hogwarts Legacy is a great game if you’re a fan of the Harry Potter IP, but when judged on it’s own merits it had a very bland open world outside of Hogwarts itself, there wasn’t much in the way of enemy variety, combat was rarely challenging and became repetitive, some of the side content (the vivarium, the room of requirements) felt very tacked on, the boss battles just felt like normal enemies but with a lot more health, and the main story felt forgettable (though I loved the Sebastian sidequest). It’s basically the perfect 7/10 game, and if it makes the right improvements then Hogwarts 2 has so much potential to be a GOTY winner.
Any other year Hogwarts Legacy might have had a chance of a nomination, but there was just far too much competition this year (Alan Wake 2, Dead Space Remake, Jedi Survivor, Resident Evil 4, Spider-Man 2, Tears of a Kingdom)
Play more games
It was a good game but the current nominees are all better, tough competition this year
It was very subpar
One of the best? What’s the other games you’ve played, Forspoken and Gollum?
Not much action and middling adventure.
It was utter trash
K
Look man nothing against you for liking it, but there is no way in hell it comes anywhere close to the other games in your screenshot.
How is it criminal when all the nominated games are better than HL?
Ah RE4 was okay. Phantom Liberty but that’s DLC.
It definitely belongs above a remake, also above jedi. Any game with a broken release does not deserve recognition
Nah bro. Glad you enjoyed it but it absolutely does not deserve a nomination. It was Ubisoft style boring open world and uninteresting story
Or…just a thought held by many…it’s not.
The complete list is a joke!
Spiderman 2 is mediocre crap. Jedi Survivor is literally one of the worst Games of the Year. Still runs like garbage on all Systems and on Consoles its upscaled from 720p and looks like crap.
Zelda 2023 is a fucking Standalone DLC for BotW. RE4 is a graphical Mod and Alan Wake is overrated as fuck and barely a Game.
But the shitty Harry Potter Game was mediocre as fuck too, so no fucking way.
Lies of P should be best Action Adventure.
Theme park games will never be nominated for GOTY. They don’t have enough depth.
Jedi Survivor was garbage imo. Has no right to be nominated for anything.
I really loved Hogwarts legacy, but there was a lot of bloat in that game.
The copy/paste open world activities could have been reduced by 75%. The only reason to do them all is if you just feel like being 100% completionist, but they weren’t enjoyable.
The map was unnecessarily large. There’s no point in flying to objectives because all you’re going to do is pass more of those monotonous open world events on the way. You’re better off just fast traveling, which seems sad when flying on a broom is so much fun.
I did really like the story, and battling with spells was super fun. I completed every single side quest and enjoyed all of my time in the game. But the game needed to be a lot tighter.
I thought Hogwarts as a game was decent but not outstanding. The world it’s based upon carries it heavily and if you don’t have the connection to the source material, it’s far less interesting. I would say it was a solid start for what will be undoubtedly a franchise, but it has room for plenty of improvements. As far as being nominated, I wouldn’t put it above any of those games personally, this was just a stacked year.
Wonder why redditors have such a negative view of this game hmmm truly a mystery….
that’s now how we do things in 2023, we vote based on how inclusive it is, like the emmys
L take.
One, no one cares about the VGAs unless you watch the VGAs. Two, Hogwarts has baggage because of the author’s social commentary despite being a source of positive literacy amongst kids and teens during the Harry Potter book popularity of the 90s. Three, the game is good but not memorable in a year full of blockbusters.
You may have loved it, but the game is just a 7.0 with Potter nostalgia for most of the gaming ecosystem. If you took away the Harry Potter name, it’s just an average action adventure game that you’d play once and be done.
