The peak of John Hughes career. Seems strange now to think he only went on to direct three more movies — *She’s Having a Baby*, *Uncle Buck* and *Curly Sure*, especially as (Uncle Buck aside), they were probably the weakest ones he did.
I know he was still active as a writer and producer and the box office of success of *Home Alone* is nothing to sniff but he really did seem to pivot towards that kids market with stuff like *Baby’s Day Out*, *Beethoven*, *Dennis the Menace* etc
Has anyone tried reassembling this footage back into the movie? I know it’s still not ALL of the footage Hughes originally had in there (the original cut was more than double the length of the theatrical release, so more footage was cut out than remained in). It’d be interested to see all of this in the context of the movie as something closer to his original version of the movie.
I still haven’t watched this movie, what is the best way to do it? 4k release looks very bad, overuse of DNR, inconsistency in quality and all that.

Four fucking wheels and a seat, and I REALLY don’t care for the way your company left me in the middle of fucking nowhere with fucking keys to a fucking car that isn’t fucking there. And I really didn’t care to fucking walk down a fucking highway and across a fucking…runway to get back here to have you smile at my fucking face. I want a fucking car right…fucking…now!

currently watching this movie as I battle covid vaccine side effects. truly timeless and bringing me some joy while I feel like total shit.
I miss John Candy immensely. Perfect man for the role of Del Griffith. Martin and him are absolutely magical together in this.
