Takes me back to my time in the CCC (California Conservation Corp). It was such a character building experience for me and I felt very connected to nature the whole time. The coworkers you suffer through grueling work with become very close very fast. Don’t join it if you are trying to make any money though. I think we got paid 7.50 an hour with 300 a month taken out for room and board. (This is back in 2009/2010)

When I was in a conservation corps we did watershed conservation and we didn’t get cool chainsaws and red pants, but we got to hammer in rebar which is also pretty badass.

I used to work with YCC volunteers on a crew that cut trees out of hiking trails in NM. Most land was so dry they didn’t allow chainsaws so we had to carry old ass 2 man saws up a 2000 ft trail to use them like cartoons. It was amazing.
