This one stumped me back in the 90s. Never have I had to press the actual Reset button on a console before to make a game progress. I got stuck on this “Mojo’s Crunch” level for a while. After destroying the computer, I thought that would “reset” things already. After nothing happened, I thought I missed something. Instead of resetting the game, I would just turn it off and play another game out of frustration. Later on, I found out from a game magazine (GamePro I think), that I literally had to press the actual Reset button on my Genesis! I rolled my eyes and wished this kind of gimmick would never be used again in any game lol!
Never played that one. I did like the psycho mantis fight on ps1 though. Plug into the second controller to easily whoop his ass. Or the guysbon the codec telling you to check the back of the case. Had me running around looking for a cade in the game….
Unfortunately, it was not very clear that you had to hit the reset button for a tiny amount of time for it to work, otherwise you lose your progress.
Yeah, I remember being so scared to press it after getting so far into the game, not wanting to have to start over.
Very cool though, one you actually go through with it!
Mojo’s crunch. I could never figure that part out. I remember reading about it online years later and was like fuuuuuck…
“Are you Playing on a SEGA NOMAD?
…Oops!”
Totally insane feature for a game. It was unintuitive. I remember being shocked watching it work
This was definitely one of those things I could never figure out as a kid.
One day I was home sick from school (and probably breaking rules because I was playing SEGA) and opted I would just try to practice beating up until this point as quickly as I could so if we ever figured out how to get past this I could beat the beginning part even faster.
Got here, hit reset to just keep jamming practice on the game, and was totally shocked to see what was next. I was so excited to tell my brothers when they got home.
Hideo Kojima liked this (probably).
This was not a feature you should institute during this era of gaming.
Nightcrawler was the shit in this game
No one gonna mention PsyLocke just chilling with them cheeks out!?
This game is impossible on 2 player
Reminds me of switching to the P2 port on MGS I thought it was so neat that the game made me do something outside of the game itself. They also make you look at the CD case for a frequency number at one point.
Looks like it’s one of the early instances of resetting the console to clear up some RAM so the game can run smoothly without risk of crashing.
Morrowind did this during their loading screens as well as Star Wars: Obi Wan.
When playing Sonic 2, if you hit the reset button you’d still have all the chaos emeralds you got previously so you could get super sonic on the first level.
This was a great game!
