The Self-Driving Car.

  • First example doesn’t illustrate a problem with self-driving cars. It illustrates a problem of individualistic culture mixing in with mental illness, and how we as a society started normalizing this tamper tantrum behavior. The dumbass in question could have been on his way, but he made his problem 10 times worse by kicking the car.

  • I think one problem they haven’t really thought of yet is that you can’t communicate with the self driving car. With a human driver, unless they’re dead, you can expect them to take instructions from anyone inside or outside the car. This is going to be tricky to solve because there has to be a reasonable balance between “listening to all instructions” and “ignoring all instructions”.

  • I’ll admit I’m ignorant to the civic engineering details of this city and what goes into managing traffic, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but isn’t California notorious for its traffic issues? I cant understand the benefits of introducing a fleet of unattended vehicles, that will literally have nobody in the car while they are en route to pick up a passenger, that must be adding even further to the traffic problem, no? Not to mention instances where there’s inevitably technical difficulties, like any piece of technology, that will further exacerbate traffic issues.

Maybe I’m being too generous but I’m hoping this was already taken into consideration and accounted for. But it seems like investing in public transportation like more trains and perhaps busses would have have more benefits for the city, but what do I know…
