First time playing AC 2 for the story, is it just me or instant fail missions like this one when you’ve been seen by guards sucks.

Mannnn I miss how the early games made the series feel. Just amazing
Was a little bit harder back then. Imo it makes the experience more intense.
Uhm, how to put it
You’re an **assassin**. Yeah, you should be mostly undercover and fail when the cover is busted.
Well… You are an *Assassin*
Yeah the early games where actually about being an assassin and not be seen, I like stuff like this
That’s probably why they made later games cater to brute force approach as well lol
Those are my favourite missions.
I play AC for the stealth, to figure out the puzzle. AC falters for me when people spot me, we fight, I kill them, but the guards around the corner no more than 20 metres away just don’t notice. That ruins the immersion.
But being required to master the stealth puzzle the whole way through, then I can kind of believe that it unfolded “correctly”
That mission specifically had me stuck for hours when I first played it, I feel the pain
It’s better than the inevitable cockup cascade where you’re seen and end up killing a small village and somehow your target hasn’t noticed a single thing when you eventually confront them.
Also within the story you’re trying to do everything Ezio did to maintain synchronization with your genetic memory. If any game has a reason to do instant failure states it’s assassins creed
skill issue
Honestly I prefer this over something that wants you to do something in stealth and makes you run away and come back if you get spotted
I guess you’re the type of player that just goes in and counter + attack every enemy on every story mission. Lol
Nah those boat missions are azzzz, stealth.. on a one deck boat with 4 guards patrolling the top.
Smh
Some of the cutscenes are hilarious in ac2 though, enjoy op 🙂
People can’t seem to make up their mind whether they hate forced stealth missions or love them because it’s from a nostalgic game.
Personally, despite Assassin’s Creed nominally being named after a fairly stealthy profession, no Assassin’s Creed game has ever really had very interesting stealth mechanics.
This is coming from someone who has played and beat almost every game since the first one…
It can be a bit clumsy at times—particularly in situations where you kill a guy a nanosecond after he sees you, which obviously makes little sense.
After you get used to the mechanics and the pathing the game wants you to do, it’s generally fairly easy. Enjoy! I love this game so much.
They are frustrating. But they serve an important purpose.
Back when AC games actually made you play as an assassin and not a super-powered demigod who can fight off 50 people in one shot.
It’s the bonfire of the vanities sequence. One of the worst since it seems to be mostly don’t be spotted missions. Go around the back of the ship from the dock area, take out the guard on the dock and then pick off the teo guards near the end of the ship.
Wait till you see the challenges..
“Dont you hate when you fail the mission for not doing what the mission says?”
Im assuming trilogy? Brotherhood is my favorite there after the combat clicks.
Yeah, instant loss when spotted is annoying but makes sense given you are supposed to be a stealthy assassin. It is a stage to “figure out”
Reminds me of the first Rainbow Six game. If you got shot once you were killed instantly and the mission failed.
Nah just gotta take it slower and be more careful
I fucking hate this mission. Easily up there as my most hated mission In the series.
Yeah these missions always sucked, a better and modern approach would be fluid system so you can go from stealth to full combat at any point.
Kinda prefer the game forcing to play stealthily..
That mission required the most attempts by far, and at first it was annoying. But it was so satisfying in the end.
One of the best games ever. Enjoy it OP.
Well, it is a stealth game…. So….
AC until Black Flag was good
RIP
I don’t know why everyone is giving OP shit for this mission specifically. This is from sequence 13, Bonfire of the Vanities, and I distinctly remember it being *very* difficult.
Yes, there are lots of other missions in the game where detection is an immediate fail condition, but the ship assassination you’re doing here is particularly tricky. I wouldn’t worry too much about finding it hard.
It’s just you.
AC2 can be a pretty rough game to play today. You have to remember that it invented many of the things that we consider to be standard in open world games today. When a game is as revolutionary as AC2 was it is inevitable that some aspects of it will age poorly.
I was just thinking about the Bonfire DLC the other day. More than this mission though.
Actually, I was thinking about DLC in all Assassin’s Creed games and how good they were compared to the base games.
Why is the picture taken at 30°?
No, I miss those so much! Now I get spotted and have to massacre everyone. I just want to be a cool sneaky assassin.
Nah it’s just you. The older games required you to actually have a decent amount of skill in order to progress through the game without getting dunked on. AC2 was a little janky but beautiful. Brotherhood polished everything that needed fixing in AC2 and in my opinion was the best of the ‘Desmond story line’ because Ezio in that game was extremely broken in terms of combat and assassinations. And Revelations just added bomb customization so if you were already extremely comfortable with the previous games you would pretty much be OP from the beginning of the game.
But you failed
Really can’t tell what mission it is based on your awful phone pic.
I just picked this up with the ezio collection and since i had only played the first ac previous to this, i cant believe how much more there is to the second game! Ive been having a blast but the parkour can be clunky and i guess the instant fails are annoying since it pulls you out of immersion; but i personally like them as it makes sense with the narrative.
When I see AC my brain still translates that into Asheron’s Call
>game centered around stealth punishes you when you fail at being stealthy
Gee, what a mystery.
I know exactly which mission and I think that’s the one I had to replay the most. Fuck that. IMO it’s not a “fun hard”, it just sucks
yeah, ur an assassin assassins should be stealthy all that crap, but lets be honest, the stealth in tge ezio trylogy sucks ass, no crouch button, nowhere near as deep social stealth as ac1 and very bad detection system
you’ve been coddled by modern games. get good
Shitty game, shitty control, Very fuckin long.
I don’t remember any auto fail missions in Armored Core 2. Try changing your parts around, use different builds.
AC 2 is very difficult to go back to.
All instant fail stealth missions suck across the board outside of stealth games.
