Snuck*
Is “commandeered” a rich/famous person word for “stole”?
Eleanor seems like she would have been a lot of fun. I would love to hear the conversation between these ladies that lead to them stealing a plane.
Hey Now
It’s great to be rich!
Lol I’m thinking of when James Corden did carpool karaoke with Michelle Obama as First Lady and they had secret service in front and behind.
Was there any hanky panky? If this plane’s a rockin. Don’t come a knockin!
Man, Eleanor seemed like she was just an awesome person. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything bad about that wonderful woman!
You say she’s just a friend, and you say she’s just a friend…
Not that there’s anything ***wrong*** with that….
“Baltimore”
Is that what they called it back then?
Snuck out
Amelia and Eleanor were sophisticated and intelligent young women. They clearly snuck out of said event.
Friends 💋
Grandma Mary Cleary: “But that wife of his, Eleanor… Big dyke! Huge dyke…”
Amelia: I’m starting a new club. Wanna join?
Eleanor: what’s it called?
Amelia: working name is Mile High Club
The airplane: a Subaru bi-plane.
Wtf is all this talk of them fucking? Two bad ass women who accomplished more in their lifetime than most doing cool shit together and the only thing you can think about is if they did the nasty? You people need to get laid.
OMG, they were co-pilots.
I feel like this is where the “Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History” bumper sticker came from
instead of cockpit it was a clitpit
President and vice president of the US, right there.
Hell yes!!!
That’s like a 15 min flight
Those smiles 😊
“**America is all about speed.** **Hot, nasty badass speed.” – Elanor Roosevelt, 1936**
Alice Roosevelt (Teddy’s daughter) was a bit of a wildcard as well. Teddy was quoted as saying, “I can be president of the United States, or I can control Alice. I cannot possibly do both.”
She kept a garter snake in her pocket, she would drive (and race) cars unchaperoned (gasp!) and when Teddy forbade her from smoking “under his roof” she would sneak up to the White House roof to smoke. Those Roosevelt ladies were ahead of their times.
I’d watch this movie.
“Well-behaved women seldom make history.”
They “jitterbugged” a few times. Nice ladies. Bet it was a blast.
Is that what they called hooking up back then?. A joyride to Baltimore?
The first 2 members of the Mile High Scissor Sisters Club
awesome
strictly platonic right? RIGHT?
Amelia-You know I didn’t change my last name after marriage?
Eleanor-Ummmmmmm, me….. neither?
So, Amelia joined the Mile High Club with the 1st Lesbie. Cool.
They totally hooked up. Also, this would make a great film. So many little stories in history don’t get enough attention.
They went to Baltimore for the clam buffet
“Eleanor, ever seen a grown woman naked?”
The more I read about Amelia, the more I believe she was a lesbian, trying to get some respect in a man’s world. She kept her sexuality under the radar, so to speak. Or maybe she was just too busy being a daring pilot to really get comfy with her own attractions?
Eleanor was probably gay too and I imagine they would have had things to bond over (physical attraction unknown, but we can speculate)
The acceptance of her Tomboy style and way of life back then was actually quite amazing, as everyone in the USA was cheering for her and her accomplishments in aviation. I suppose most never realized that she was never going to “settle down and marry”, but thought that she would end up with some dashing fighter pilot or something.
I can imagine the ” I told you so” look teddy must have given his daughter when Amelia got lost
You know, there’s a children’s book based on this event. It’s called, ‘Amelia and Eleanor Go For a Ride’. It’s quite nice.

Now we know why she went missing
