In honor of World Ska Day, here’s “Madness” in a 1979 music video for their new single “The Prince”. A song about Jamaican Ska singer Prince Buster, the artist who influenced them (and for whose song they named the band after).

Tune. Can you imagine being at that gig?
That didn’t look like 1979
What a scene that must have been at the club!
Love this song
Ska is a wonderful fusion of cultures that can express so much anger and joy. Vastly underappreciated.
I thank sublime for introducing me to Ska
Wow, I feel like an idiot. I never knew Madness did ska!? Tbf, I checked my Spotify liked songs and I only have our house… so that’s on me.
How am I this old and just finding out about World Ska Day? I really need to… pick it up, pick it up, pick it up…
Ska came before Raggae
Love Madness! It was always playing at our house…
I call it gladness…
Greek here. Love “Madness” so much. I wish I had the chance to watch them perfom live. I love late 70s British Ska. Don’t ask me why. My favourite genre is Hard Rock/Metal noises.
i saw them about 10 years ago or so at Newbury Race day… what an amazing show that was!
Saw them in Paradiso (Amsterdam) in 1980.
Was hooked immediately!
Coolness.
Madness were such a great fun band. They started as a ska band but became more ‘pop’. I was lucky enough to see them live at “Madstock” in Finsbury Park, London in 1998. It was quite an experience! They also made many other amusing videos to accompany their songs. “Baggy Trousers” is one of my favourites.
