Man just singing it like you do on the album
Useless Factoid: “Midnight Special” was produced by Burt Sugarman – husband of Mary Hart of Entertainment Tonight fame.
God damn….talk about the supergroup.
Makes me miss the fuck outta Dr John.
Marvelous night for a moondance
Did anyone else hear these songs growing up and always imagine what the singer looked like? And then thanks to pages like this and YouTube, you realize you couldn’t have been more wrong!
Holy SHIT! I should have read the title, I was excited before they brought in Dr John, I was all George Benson after Carlos Santana… then it just kept building and building. Man! What a night to have been there! Etta scatting?! Wow!
FANTASTIC!!!! 😎
What on earth is Tom Scott playing?
Amazing talent on one stage.
I must say though. It blows my mind that Santana is 30 , and Van is 32 in this video. The 1960s must have taken a lot out of them, because they look like they are in their 40s.
Nice share ! Thanks
That scene was filled with talent
Holy shit. This is a great find.
Just amazing! I was rivited. So much talent on one stage. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! Simply amazing- some of the best talent in the World at any given time in our history on the same stage… true musicians!!!
I could listen to this all day! A truly tremendous showcase of talent! Etta James is my favorite singer ever. I can’t believe I’ve never seen this video!
Gotta say it’s way too sped up. Kinda loses some passion from the original, slow, more bluesy Moondance.
Still lovely, ofc.
this is a random story but I’m high and I’m gonna type it. 20 years ago my wife and I went to Belfast. We were visiting her family in london and a ryanair flight was like ten bucks or whatever so we decided to check it out.
The airport is quite far from the city and we had a long cab ride and I am a chatty person and I was trying to think of anything to ask our cabbie (who was probably 60 or so) that didn’t pertain to “the troubles” and the only thing I could think of was “did you ever see Van Morrrison?”
he went on to tell me a detailed and heartbreaking story about how as a young man Van Morrison had stolen his best girl from him at a a local dance. He was so emotional telling the story I literally thought he was going to cry.
My point is this, if you’re ever in Belfast (great city by the way, highly recommend) it’s best to just ask about the troubles.
I love when they do ‘Breezin’ on this show. Carlos uses that main lick in his song with John McLaughlin called ‘let us go into the house of the lord’ which is also somewhat of a rendition of Coltrane’s song
Great find!
Santana didn’t even pretend to follow the changes. He sounded like he’d never heard the song before.
Man…I LOVE this song! I always blast it when it plays on my oldies station.
How did the stage not collapse with that massive weight of talent on it?!
💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
Real talent, before the autotune…
The only person missing is Kenny Burrell.
Wow what an incredible version, I love the altered time signature, it changed the song completely but it was still the same at the core. There’s not a lot of artists that could keep up with Van to perform at this level and they All killed it! Thanks for sharing, I’m a better person for experiencing this.
Funk you very much!!
Jazz flute?
This was absolutely amazing thank you for posting! (Wish Leon Russell sat in too) 😎
Hella cool
Great great performance.
I remember seeing a video of him from the later 80’s/early 90’s where he was obviously sick and tired of performing Moondance that he did it about 3x as fast and it was over in about 90 seconds. 🙂
**This** is classic.
Jesus Christ……to be a fly on the wall of that place
Awesome! I love how everyone brought their “A” game. They definitely want to impress the others on that stage.
BTW, if you’ve ever heard the classic “At Last” (like from Obama’s inauguration) that was Etta James singing.
That is a crap ton of old school cool right there! Great post
Whenever I hear ‘Moondance’ from Van Morrison, all I can think of is this random, one off sketch from SNL where Melanie Hutsell is the lone concert go-we dancing to the song, and blocking someone’s view. It was just her looking like an ass, and dancing. God, she had a punchable face.
