Today is the premiere of this film in Poland.
Story is settled in 19th century Poland.
The style reminds me of the show Undone on Prime
Aren’t most movies made without AI?
Do you mean without *CGI*?
Hmmm, I hate to say it but this effect could have been done exactly the same with AI in about one day. You can see immediately that it’s real actors that have been filmed like any other film, but this one is “special” because artists have painted ever frame. The result is a sort of “paint filter” look. A strange waste of potential, considering all you could have done with hand-drawn animation. This is just a regular film with (what looks like) a filter.
4 years? Man, I gotta say this style seems like a waste of that time. I think rotoscoping can be used to interesting effect but I don’t find this artistic style all that interesting. It seems they went for a heavily realistic paint style which makes you wonder why they bothered. If you’re going to paint over reality I would want it to have more style and look less realistic. Otherwise just shoot it for real. I can’t say this looks all that interesting to me
Anyone know the first song in the trailer?
.
It’s from the directors of Loving Vincent (2017), a movie about Vincent van Gogh, which was also made by having each single frame of the movie hand painted, but in the style of van Gogh. It took 6 years to finish that film.
A similar technique was used by Aleksandr Petrov for his 1999 oscar-winning short movie “The Old Man and the Sea” based on Hemingway’s novella.
