I loved this game! Always did the largest islands map for skirmishes. Loved building an absolutely ridiculous navy and just wrecking everything on the map. Trident subs were my favorite. And I still have the CD and manual somewhere. No way to play it though. 😢
My grandfather (computer engineer) bought me a RAM upgrade for Christmas so I could play Empire Earth on the family computer. A 256mb stick to bring us up to a sweet 512mb total.
It was like age of empires, just better in every single way( at least for casual gamers like me). More ages, more resources, 3d graphics, and more population/troops.
It’s kinda similar to how city skylines is everything simcity should have been. Empire earth took a great game and made it even better.
My friend and I would have 12-13 hour skirmish games of this basically every day when it came out. We would start at Prehistoric and go all the way to Nano age and agree not to attack until we hit a certain age.
This game allowed the most units ever on screen at the same time when it came out.
Oh man; empire earth! I played the hell out of this game, used to play with a friend and a game would last forever! Middle Ages was the best age to set the cap to imo
Rise of Nations was king for me. I could only play the demo for the longest time, when that flute music kicks in, even now. My jaw dropped for Empire Earth though when my friend brought it over, I’d played Empire Dawn of a modern World but going from Caveman to literally one shot across the map laser future troops was something else. Even now my brain lets a “Khelos” drop out of my mouth randomly that the cavemen say.
My favorite thing to do in this game was rush epochs and see how farther ahead of the computer I could get.
My favorite memory was when I reached WW2 while the main comp was still medieval. I flew a nuclear bomber over the map, passing over a Knight on horseback, who turned around to run back to the castle as it flew over. The same castle my bomber was headed for. He got within view of the castle as the bomb was dropped, leveling it. The Knight then sat in place for a moment before turning and running the opposite direction. All I could think was from this knights perspective: hears of an attack, gallops out only to see a “dragon” fly over head. Turns back to warn his king, only to see the “dragon” destroy his home in a biblical column of fire. Then, is frozen in place by shock as the dragon turns and starts heading back his way. Play the Monty Python “run away!” As he rides for his life.
The only problem I have with EE is unit control. I play a decent amount of StarCraft 2 still, so my expectations are that units immediately start doing what orders I give, delays for whatever reason such as trying to reform into some shitty overly spaced out formation just annoys the shit out of me. Turn speeds for many units are absolutely atrocious as well, it feels like units spend more time turning around compared to moving.
If there were another game like EE with decent unit control, I would absolutely love it.
Yes m’lord.
Was just thinking about it earlier, steam over here recommending AoE but I’d like to see a remake of EE.
Indeed.
We need a remake…not 2 or 3. A remake of 1
I had completely forgotten this game…I’m totally gonna buy it now. Thanks!
Empire Earth, Rise of Nations, Age of Empires. What makes them unique from one another? All my memories they were basically a blend lol
Oh my god I’d love a modern take on empire earth…
Another game I played along with this was Populous: The beginning, underrated and really fun RTS
Got this game before I had a computer able to run it. I read the heck out of the manuals over and over.

Spend some many hours on on the first game.

I would pay double for a faithful remake.
Mynameismethos
I just remember that easy ai was just mind numbingly easy. And normal ai couldn’t be beat 1v4 with all my other friends on my team.
I spent so much time in this game before I had internet.

I like how mission 2 of the Russian civilization is invade Ukraine.
Ah! Smashing troglodytes with your mechas!
I loved empire earth. I would have a two islands skirmish, defend my island and just Blitz the crap out of the other team with waves of bombers. 😂
I’ve been looking for the name of this game for actually years, thank you!!!

nothing like sending dudes with laser blasters to annihilate cavemen.

HAYACHA.
I preferred Rise of Nations myself
