This is not something that changes because you get older… you simply don’t eat the end pieces.
why do you think he’s lived to be 67?
You leave the end piece so that the top slice doesn’t get stale
That piece is the hoe of the loaf. Everyone touches it but nobody wants it.
This is where croutons and bread-pudding comes from.
Your dad is right…
I never used to mind eating the end pieces, growing up. Until I had a wife and kids who all refused to eat the end pieces, and suddenly *I have to eat all the fucking end pieces*.
I eat the heel when they’re the only two pieces left
Someone: *doesn’t like bread heels*
Me: *eating a sandwich made out of bread heels* “Pathetic”
What’s funny about this?
I taught my kids that those pieces are “the special bread”. Now they fight over who gets them. Im a genius.
You should leave the end piece until all the middles are used, than make a delicious egg sandwich with the crust/ends
People who dont like crust always seemed weak to me. Like, thats being picky on a whole next level
I never minded the heels of bread. Always ate them once I got out on my own and had to buy own food. My mom would save them all in a “bag o’ heels” in the freezer and use them for stuffing/dressing at Thanksgiving.
I love the heel toasted ❤️
Pass the butter and your troubles are no more.
I used to not eat the end pieces. When I got to the real world I mentioned it to a coworker and his response was “Oh How nice you had enough money growing up to just throw away food.”
If he’s that old, he grew up when those were the dirtiest fucking pieces of the loaf.
A lot more crap on them from the ovens they were baked in.
Does he actually throw it out and not eat it?
I usually leave the heals of the loaf for last because I was told it keeps the loaf fresher. So my bread bag looks like this too. But I actually really like those pieces the most.
I love toasting up those last 2 pieces! They hold up great to butter and jam.
Bread I bake myself: Gimme those crusty bad boy end pieces.
Bread I’ve bought: Uugh keep that trash poison heel away from me.
I always claim the endpieces when the loaf starts and gets near the end. I’m balancing the universe out with your father.
I don’t know why people hate the ends of Bread. Those are my fav slices.
Great choice in bread though
I’m probably missing the joke, but if he’s pushing 70 maybe his teeth aren’t so great?
Though back when I used to eat bread, that was my favourite part. Especially freshly baked homemade bread, that was so crunchy.
I grew up poor on a farm with lots of siblings. Our parents worked hard to make ends meet, so wasting food was one of the worst offenses someone could commit in our family. We had a simple rule that if you opened or finished a loaf of bread, you had to use the crust.
The idea of throwing food away just seems incredibly wasteful to me.
The crusts are the best bits!
I’m 68 and that is the best part, especially toasted.
Man, they’re the best bit!
The heel helps keep the next slice from getting stale so all the middle slices stay fresher.
More for me, send me to your bread ends. I will gladly eat them
Entitled Boomer
This heal is what we call it. Would never eat one.the 2 heals protect the regular bread…
A lot of people here don’t know what hunger is. The heels are bread too, just eat it.
I eat the top one with the first slice and the bottom one with the last slice, following the depth of the packet.
